Greenwood Lake?

Now that the ‘cong is drawn down so far thinking about maybe my first trip up to Greenwood Lake but having never been I know nothing about it. Reading some older posts on Greenwood in the fall looks like it might be worth targeting some ‘eyes. So some questions.

Is there a drawdown there I need to be concerned about?
Where would be the best place to launch from?
Is the walleye bite on this time of year?

Appreciate any info you guys can provide.

Thanks

Steve

Walleyes can be caught year round, you just gotta learn some of their seasonal habits. Once the lake cools down look in deeper water around structure.
Launching in GW has become anyoying over the past few years due to private marina owners jacking up their ramp fees to avoid googans from jamming up thier ramps. Willow Point and DeFeos will rape you for at least $40 on weekends. $20 midweek has become the norm but sometimes you can find a guy in a good mood and they’ll charge you $10. The other marinas are hit or miss depending on how busy they are. Boat hauling and dock removal keep their ramps pretty busy this time of year so I always try to call ahead to insure I can find an open ramp. Small Craft, Sportsman, and Moosehead are on list also.

The lake is full capacity right now and I haven’t heard of any draw down. They did draw down Upper Greenwood (private) and I think all that water ends up in Greenwood.

The walleye bite can be really good in the fall and winter but those dam fish never cooperate like you want. Sometimes you have a half hour window and they feed like mad, other days it goes all day, and the next day nobody is hungry.

Thanks for the info. Called around and looks like ramps are pretty much shut down, at least the ones I actually spoke to someone. Gonna try to call a couple more tomorrow that are closed today. In case anyone’s wondering Sportsman’s has no public launch due to construction and Small Craft is closed for the year. Gonna try Moosehead and South Shore tomorrow as they’re closed today. Fingers crossed would love to get up there Thursday and have a go.

Well in case anyone’s been following this for info, I have not been able to find any open launch ramps on Greenwood. Looks like it’s time to winterize and wait for the hard water to come.

Check your Pm's! DeFeos is open. $10 midweek.....$50 on the weekends. I just talked to someone who launched there yesterday.

Plenty of time to still use the boat. Tons of reservoirs and larger lakes to access right up to ice.

I do believe this is scheduled to be a draw down winter. I was told it was by the mayor over the summer.

A friend of mine was up there about a week ago and said the water was pretty murky. Not sure why. Just passing on what I was told.
