So I high-tailed it outta the house yesterday about 330 pm leaving a smoke trail lol. It was my first time day fishing in months. I was nervous and paranoid--unaccustomed to being seen by others. So many people everywhere. It was a whole new world for me hahaha!

Anyhow, it hit Raritan river from shortly after 4 to about 7 pm. Caught a stupid number of smallies from 14" and smaller. Had a few dink largemouth and some beastly panfish, too. While wading about thigh deep at the tail end of a long run I see a tank cruising. Big ass river smallie. She cruised right by me and never spooked. As she faded away I kept casting my tube jig.

Made a cast across river and downstream a bit and my rod just doubled over. A series of blistering runs up and downstream I thought I had a small carp at first bc there were no aerials--fish just stayed down. Finally at the ass end of a run downstream she made a lazy lunge at the surface. Oooo buddy... toad smallie.

Eased her in, grabbed the lip and admired her. Love this shit! Quick tape and snapped a pic. 19" on the nose. Prob around 4 lbs and full of piss and vinegar. Waded out and held her tail until she got her bearings then with a few flaps of her tail I was soaked and she was gone.

nice fish bud. when I was younger I could pick my days and times to fish. now im forced to fish what I have free so wind, snow, rain , heat, midnight....... whatever ill take what I can get. im mean it does suck when it pours on the boat. waterproof hatches aren't waterproof in certain situations but , again, ill take it ...... I guess:D

"You can go fishing if you want"? You apparently haven't trained her well enough over the years. It should be "Are you going to cut the grass after you come back from fishing?" or "Can you pick up groceries on your way back from fishing?" Or if you did a really good job, "How about we go fishing today?"

5. We just bought a house so shits been hectic.

ya I know it can be hectic, we just moved and rented out our townhouse. I have a 5 year son and with work getting in the way and other life events my wife understands it means something to me to get out. I don't get out like I use to but its good enough. I stopped doing bass tournament as they were long days and she needed help, especially in the beginning. I do one or two a season only now but id rather fun fish. its all a compromise and we get thru it . btw congrats on the new house, youll settle in soon enough. moving is always a ruff time, even with the mortgage companys and all the financial stuff . I know when I did it my time to take the boat out was limited so just walking a local pond or river was the therapy I needed. I forgot who said it but it went like this " sometimes in fishing you don't find the fish, but you always seem to find yourself" isn't that what its all about. have a good day guys

Glad you got into 'em J Man. Nice fatty to top it off dude. There are some sweethearts in that river. Now that you can get some daytime hours we gotta meet up one of these days. Or was that just a tease and now you gotta pay! :D
