Park Closures - Government Shutdown

Our government fails us once again:(

So much for taking out the kayak

See list to make sure your waterbody isn't closed if you are fishing this long holiday weekend.

-------------------------------------------

Due to the government shutdown in the State of New Jersey, all State Parks, Forests, Historic Sites, and Recreation Areas will be closed until further notice.

All public events happening at these venues have been canceled.

All camping reservations have also been canceled. If you are currently in one of our camping areas, you will need to leave your site by 11:00 am on Saturday July 1st.

Swimming is not permitted while the parks are closed.

New Jersey State Park Police will be enforcing the closure and patrolling the parks grounds during this time.

If you notice any suspicious activity near a State Park, State Forest, Historic Site, or Recreation Area during this time please call 1-877-WARN-DEP (1-877-927-6337).

Please visit the New Jersey State Park & Forestry website http://www.nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/ for any updated information.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause over your holiday weekend.

Thanks for the heads-up. Ive heard of this happening before I was into fishing, first time it's affected me directly.

It seems county parks are still open right?

I have seen posts on fb that SR and RV gates are closed to all activities. Both are on the list in the article

The park area at RVR for sure will be closed via locked gates. The boat ramp area is separate from the state park so possibly not effected.

Viva NJ.

I keep my boat at Spruce Run and got a call yesterday saying if the state shuts down I will not have access to it until the situation is resolved....So I think it's safe to say the boat ramp area will be closed until someone blinks in the budget standoff.

Took a ride to RVR, the boat ramp area entrance is chained off so zero access. Not surprised, but had some hope it was a loophole away from the recreation area

I'm stuck at work today so it's a moot point, but if I had the day off, I would fish the South Branch of the Raritan. There are plenty of put-ins for kayaks and canoes that the state hasn't chained off.

I guess the same applies for the Passaic if you know where to launch.

That is some BS right there!! I can see closing the rec area side because that takes staff for lifeguards etc, but the fishing access side is unstaffed! Someone actually had to go out of their way to go drag a chain out to close it. The state park police are considered essential and are still working in the event of an emergency, no reason the fishing access area should be closed.

Sucks for all the business that will not have customers on a holiday weekend.

When a government shutdown happens, all incumbent politicians should become ineligible for reelection.

It was odd seeing a bright yellow chain shutting down access to the parking lot and a guy sitting in a pick-up truck I assume was off duty police or ranger. I just could not remember if there was a gate there as I've never seen the area closed, but no gate, just some ingenuity to shut it down.

Oh wells, at least Merrill Creek moved off my to-do list to my done list today.

And kudos to the poster who said if the government shuts down all officials involved should be automatically ineligible for reelection. And maybe move the annual budget vote to the middle of winter so the government doesn't have to screw their constituents like this on a holiday weekend meant for being outdoors.

this really sucks. rvr fishing ramp being closed. just punishing the citizens of the state who pay ridiculous taxes. and yeah of course, the casinos, lottery and toll booths stay open, they are apparently just as crucial as police and fire department. what a load of BS. no wonder we are considered the most corrupt state in the nation. did you guys see the pictures of our governor enjoying the beach all to himself today?

If you want free sh!t, run for governor of New Jersey. “It’s just the way it goes. Run for governor and then you can have the residence.”

I drove by Norvin Green State Forest yesterday and the parking lots were full. I wonder if smaller lakes in the WMAs such as Green Turtle Pond might be off their radar.
