Craziest fishing moment 2016???
 

I was just wonderin any thing crazy you have witnessed recently (doesnt have to be 2016). Like a fish that was not supposed to be there or someone doing something crazy. For me I would say watching a guy catch a 7 pound bass on a hotdog, catching a 26 inch trout in a little creek, or losing a big pike while striper fishing.

I helped my buddy unhook an otter that he caught through the ice while fishing a dead stick on an arctic warrior with a big dead golden for pike. We thought it was a monster pike for about 5 minutes until we saw fur under the hole.

Yeah im pretty sure they hold over under the dams where the cold water is. There is some surprisingly deep holes in that thin little river and some crazy species

Craziest moment this year was watching a goose and swan fight eachother after the swan got too close to the baby geese. The goose fared better than I expected and the swan eventually backed off.

Runner up goes to the guy who got is 20+ foot boat stuck on the boat launch at cranberry lake...ended up waiting an hour or so for him to get off the ramp.

I have to say 2016 was relatively drama-free for me. I had a few minor conflicts, but this year I didn't have any near-death experiences caused by inattentive boaters nearly running down my little kayak.

There was a couple of times this year I felt my life might be in danger. One time I was night fishing from my kayak in a big, secluded state park. Around 10:00 pm, I beached my kayak at the boat ramp surprised to see there was nobody catfishing off the ramp that night. When I was walking to my car, I was startled by a few guys just standing in the dark. Not fishing or loading up their boats. Just standing in pitch blackness. I thought for sure I was about to go missing and end up on the back of a milk carton.

I always bitch about people picnicking on the boat ramps during the day, but a least I can comprehend what they're doing there. These guys weren't doing anything. Listening to them talk, they didn't seem to know each other. They didn't sound like they were there to do drugs or have gay sex - they were just guys with a lot of time on their hands who were all hanging out in the dark of a secluded boat ramp on a summer night. They talked about themselves and made note of the stars on a dark, moonless night.

The experience was strange and left me feeling vulnerable to being killed by weirdos who hang out at boat ramps in the middle of the night. I haven't fished at night from that spot since.

Craziest moment for me was seeing a carp in Hackensack river start doing doughnuts on top of the water for a solid few seconds. Must have though it was a dolphin - walking on top of the water in circles like that.

I know carp like to jump a lot, but going in circles with the body above the water for such a long time is definitely not something I've ever seen before!

Second craziest moment was during carp fishing in the summer - was reeling in some corn on a hair jig to re-cast to a better spot and a little bass took down the moving corn! First time I ever caught a largemouth bass on corn..

My craziest moment was watching a four pound bass try to swallow a crappie i had hooked. Luckily, i threw the crappie back and threw my jig right in front of the bass's nose and he hammered it. I have never had a bass follow a crappie in only small sunnies. It was definitely a memorable moment. Also, i had a forty inch pike follow my husky jerk rapala to my feet only to turn back around and swim away. Lol thats fishing!

I saw a guy almost turn his truck into a boat at the boat ramp.
Luckily, he knew when to give up trying to go forward and call a tow truck to get him out. Here's the pic:

Did you put that catfish back? My friends fish there all the time for carp and perch but its probably dead now

Caught a 24" walleye on a piece of cut bait while flathead fishing. That is about the most unusual thing I can think of from last year.

Craziest was being harassed by animal activist during a tournament, they even got drone footage during the weigh in. These nut cases want all fishing to be out lawed. They believe fish feel pain, have emotions, have family groups etc. Talk about bat sh* crazy

I didn't catch / release it.

An angler who fishes there for channel cats did, & reported it to us (NJDF&W).

Hudson Co. has a "catch & release" policy / signs @ Duck Pond.

He didn't want to get in trouble, so he released it.

Yes, cartoon-like Felix The Catfish is probably dead now.

my craziest moment was flipping rocks in the rahway and watching my 4 year old reach down and barehand a fat ~18" eel right into his bucket and say I GOT IT DAD I GOT IT. I had to have a long talk about grabbing random animals (like snakes) without checking with dad first.

Gotcha. Those things are pretty ferocious and will eat just about anything they can fit in their mouths.

Thought I was weird for my relations with the M.I.L.'s
They were both extremely hot in their 40's but I still see them now in their 70's and it's quite discomforting.
Guess I've grown to look pretty disgusting as well. haha

Reminds me of the time I took a friend fishing. He never fished before. Explained to him how to cast. He goes for it first cast ever. He lets go of the line way too early and the buzz bait goes straight up in the air. It lands right next to the boat and starts sinking.

He looks at me like wtf now? I say close the bail and reel it in to try again haha...as he reels it in the rod bends over and I say oh great you let it sink and got caught on the bottom. Then I see it bobbing...ended up catching a bass just under 3lbs! On the guys first cast EVER and the worst cast EVER hahaha.

I was in the Piscataway area fishing a pond that produces well using plastics. I feel a bite, set the hook, and think I missed and snagged a stick. This is what was on the end of my line.

Well... I assume the fish that I catch have resentment and feel embarrassed... Any fish I release gets told that they need to fight like a real fish and to come back when he can man up... lol

Crazy time this year when I started fishing the Hudson for the first time because its right there and still learnin the ropes. This guy who was filling me in decided to thrown his bait LITERALLY next to mine and about 15 minutes later he hooked into a 50+lb Sturgeon. First one i've seen in person and it was nuts! I knew they were there but didn't know they could get that big anymore! We spent 10 minutes balancing on rocks over the wall trying to get the fish off without taking it out of the water because a fish and game ranger said to us that he was going to fine the guy if it didn't swim away. We got her off and I waded her into about 4 foot of water to massage her back... still can't get the Hudson stink off those waders...

Dang you got to see the legendary sturgeon, very lucky! I wonder what bait that was, going to guess fresh clams.
