I no your looking for ice in the highlands.. but midway ice and fuel in Neptune is a 20lb bag for $4 bucks and it's cheaper the more you buy... worth the trip if you have a freezer.

I get mine from the chest freezer in my basement. I keep refreezing the 1-liter seltzer bottles, but only use the 1/2 gallon milk & OJ cartons once.

If you fish a lot and use a lot of ice,go to craigslist and find an old chest freezer.. they are often found at $50-100.... In a few months it will pay for itself.. I would never be without one.... bob

As others have already said, in the absence of something at home to make or store ice, Midway in Neptune is a great place. Can't beat their prices. Not sure what time they open in the morning so if you plan on shoving off early it might be best to buy the day before.

Directions

1.Empty the ice cubes that are left in the trays (if there are any left) into the bin.
2.Take the trays over to the sink and fill them with cold water.
3.Place the water filled ice trays back in the freezer.
4.Replace the ice bin if you had to remove it.
5.Shut the door to the freezer.

Looking at all these really sharp answers and I can't help but think of the old saying, 'Everybody likes a little ass, but nobody likes a smart ass!"

Not even a mention of Julian's or Atlantic Bait & Tackle?

:D

So not true. Can you imagine how boring it would be without some good hearted ball busting?

FWIW I stop by Pete every time I'm on my way to AHMH........and you couldn't pay me to go into the other place.

Restaurant Depot sells I think 40lb bags for around 5bucks. For that price it's totally not worth doing half the things the above wise crackers mentioned, lol. I have a big chest freezer, so I get a half a dozen bags whenever I go to RD and fill up the freezer. Lasts me a long time.

Instead of ice cubes I fill empty half gallon containers with water and then freeze them. The square large containers from peanuts or cashews from Wegmans or Costco work very well. You get a block of ice that is about 6 inches square. It is much easier to move them to the cooler or boat than cubes.

Lobster house down in Cape may folks your cooler (120 qt) for $5. I would think one of the seafood markets up here might do similar. Worth a couple of calls.

I'm pretty sure I can pour 40# of water out of my kitchen faucet and freeze it for <$5 , and do it with less effort than a trip to Restaurant Depot or other ice emporium. :p
