Early Morning Hybrid Hunt
 

Went after some hybrids with my dad on the yaks this morning. Got bait and was at the lake by 7am. Slow trolled herring around and quickly connected with a nice catfish but not the species we were after. Pretty cool to catch one up high in the water column and not near bottom. Continued fishing and had a fish slam my rod and take a screaming run, I knew what it was. But after a short battle I lost him. My dad comes over and soon enough also gets bit but his drag was set too tight and the fish was gone. Had acouple more quick run-offs and ended the day getting a nice smallie and another smaller cat. Will be back soon. Alot of NJFishing members out there!

Looks like a great morning.
After an extended "happy hour" I got up too late this morning to get on the water before the storms hit. Unfortunately, according to the weather forecast, I think that's going to be it for my weekend. :(

Nice report and smallie....You were almost like our bouy out there that we could do circles around.....Saw you hooked up but thought you landed that hybrid....Theres always next time:D

Nice Smallie and good report dude! Keep at it and you'll get your monster BRID! Super fun fish to catch once you figure em out! Crazy how everything is so high up in the water column! :D

I was there on Saturday early at the same times and the hybrid fishing wasn't nearly as good as last week, but I found a school around the same area as the prior week and got into a pretty good bite that abruptly ended around 1030 am when the fish scattered off my chart. The prior week, the bite had gone on heavy into the afternoon. Surprising since Saturday was much more overcast than the prior week.

In addition to a hand full of hybrids, I got a couple of catfish as well suspending like you said.

I found the hybrids down 15' two weeks in a row and really congregating in a small area. Second time I've ever targeted them and can't believe how hard they fight.
