Crappies in crappie weather...5/6

is this why they call them crappies? I think i'm addicted, can't stop targeting them! Started off how we left them biting last time about a week ago...not even a nibble! Thought maybe i used my last personal day off for the year on the wrong day to go fishing...sitting in the rain and wind with the fish tight lipped haha.

Back tracked in the season and tried how we were getting them a few weeks earlier...again...no crappie at all. Ok, now i was sure i wasted my day off work! Cut my losses and go home? hell no!

believe it or not, early early spring pattern...finally found them and had them biting pretty good! little jigs under bobbers on shallow weed flats and along the mini points. they seemed to prefer white or green translucent plastics on the small side. all on light/ultra light gear, had a blast, and the rain and wind even stopped for a little bit at one point haha.

Plenty of fish caught, including some avg bass, perch, gills and pickerel. Crappie up to 15" and a hair.

.

Your thread peaked my interest and I had to research the origins of the fish name "crappie".
It turns out it has its origins in the French Canadian name for this fish 'crapet'.
Crapet is the French word for 'sunfish'.
