RV or LH?
Wife and kid free on sunday.
Have not fished in a while and want to get out. My question is Lake Hopatcong for panfish or Round Valley in hope for trout? It's going to be a land based trip. Not real familiar with either lake Any advice or recommendations appreciated. Thanks! |
Re: RV or LH?
If with wife and kids than I would go to Hopatcong. In my opinion that would be a safer bet to catch some fish. Head over to state park and enjoy.
RV could produce as well but you'll have to get there early enough for a better chance to get into one. My two cents Andre |
Re: RV or LH?
Sunday looks windy. I agree lh with kids but be aware there is still ice all over in some spots. Though I noticed lakes end marina area was totally open today looked like.

Re: RV or LH?
Wife and kid free, meaning no wife or kid. I'd say walking the shoreline of RVR is better option.

Re: RV or LH?
RV slip bobbers and live shiners I've heard...

Re: RV or LH?
Wife/Kid free meaning NO WIFE OR KIDS.
I am thinking get RV bit alway worry about the wind there. I did hearof a good shore based trout bite as well as a good perch bite on LH. |
Re: RV or LH?
its a tough call, there are fish at both places. I will be doing some trout fishing sunday in bridgewater. caught a few trout last week there

Re: RV or LH?
Depends, how important it is to you to catch fish. I'm past the need to catch fish so I would go with the more challenging but more rewarding rv. Also would have in mind that you can catch panfish 365 days a year with it only getting better as it warms up. Rv on the other hand will get more challenging to fish from shore as the water warms making this time of year prime for looking for trout from shore

Re: RV or LH?
oh i thought you meant the wife and kid were free to come with you haha.
check the wind direction if you go to rvr sunday cause it might be blowing and you'll want it at your back i would think. the panfish bite from the bottleneck shore sections of hopatcong is pretty fun, but you could get a big old trout at rvr! |
Re: RV or LH?
suppose{will see} to be 60 degrees on sunday.hit the shallows on lh and you should catch a few.the perch will be bunching up soon.good luck

Re: RV or LH?
if your looking to catch panfish hit up a smaller pond thats got woods nearby to shield you from the wind. Gonna be blowing 15mph steady by lunchtime both RVR and LH are windswept as it is on calm days. There are perch in the shallows starting to group up to spawn and with ice out many other species will come in shallow too. Just about everything is ice free but wont be totally opened up until mid week after sun-wed being 50s+

Re: RV or LH?
Like others have said back coves of LH still have some ice
River Styx Web Cam http://www.wunderground.com/webcams/EW4722/1/show.html Hendersons still has a covering of ice too |
Re: RV or LH?
I think I may try my luck at RV tossing some lures and floating some shiners.
Question.... whew can I buy shiners around the RV area. Thanks |

Re: RV or LH?
Behre Bait & Tackle:D
The closest bait shop to Round Valley, it's located behind the Shell gas station at 1239 US Route 22 East. Parking is in the rear of store. |
Re: RV or LH?
Great, thanks

Re: RV or LH?
How did you make out at RV NJ Dave? I was thinking about giving it a shot but hit a local stream instead. All I could do was snag a sucker by accident in the high water.
