Launched at rv yesterday. Trolled up some nice Lakers. The main ramp had one lane plowed.

Definitely would be awesome. Just drove by rv and as mentioned launch is completely open think I could see a kayak way out there. Might try jig some lakers next real warm day we have

thanks for the update, good to know. Ive been itching to get out in the boat I think Im gonna play hookie next warm day and go jig some lakers up for some mental therapy......just sucks the water is so low and you need waders/hip boots to get the boat in

Let me know if any one needs an extra guy. Got addicted to jigging the Lakers last year in ny then at the valley while we had ice, might float around in my kayak with my flasher to try it open water since the valley won't be freezing this year and by the looks of it most of the laker lakes in ny won't be freezing either. Sure would be more comfortable in an actual boat, and I can repay ya with a bowfishing trip once I get the boat back together come spring

My boat is sort of packed away for the winter, but it would take me a few minutes to pull off the covers. Right now it is behind a 3 ft high mound of snow, but if the weather stays warm and there is a nice day I'd certainly dig it out give RV a shot.

How deep are you finding the lakers?

Re: Merrill Creek and RV launch?

Last year while jigging them we found them anywhere from 50 -100 fow but last few weeks have been plenty of reports of guys catching a few from shore. This time of year they really could be anywhere in the water column.

I hear ya about the boat, what I do everyday when I get home from work I take a shovel and knock down and spread the pile of snow in front of the boat. Throw a few shovels in the roads and drive way to let it melt on the warmer pavement, boat is always free from the snow bank two or three weeks earlier then the other snow banks around

funny my biggest Lakers have been vertical jigging vs trolling. back in the old days i have jigged up some slammers. but as far as quantity you can beat trolling. anyway i may try and jig some up this weekend.

Re: Merrill Creek and RV launch?

usually average sized ones but the ones I got trolling a few weeks ago all hit lures 5-10' down near the surface.

Anything that has a bait fish profile worked through the ice for me, white tubes, bucktails, jigging raps, jig head and plastic body all caught fish for me

yup same stuff you would jig w open water works good. I like spoons and binsky, crippled herring (small ones) and you can downline shiners or liveline them off back while you jig, the herring are gone in there shiners are the actual bait balls you see once in a while, states been stocking them along w the club. if you troll dont be scared to stay up high and in close to shore, the lakers are very active and you will find them both deep bottom and shallow chasing bait

Its always seemed to me that if you get something close enough to them you can usually tempt them to bite. guys up north swear by a 'bass tube' i've never had one on that. I've had them on blade baits, jigging raps, and crippled herring spoons from a boat on both places. I'm thinking it'd be hard to go wrong with a minnow tipped jig. I've seen my friend catch a rainbow jigging there with a swimbait on a jighead.

Small strips of sucker meat. Guys out west swear by it!

Re: Merrill Creek and RV launch?

For trolling at this time how deep would you target? Like 5-15' and bottom in closer to the shore?

Delawareriver 02-19-2016 04:15 PM

Re: Merrill Creek and RV launch?

Na target deeper. Majority will be 65+ fow and close to the bottom. Yes some will be up higher and closer to shore but not nearly as many as are deep
