Tuna reel.

What is your guys opinion on the penn 16vsx VS. shimano talica 25 specs are similar. Does anyone have any experience with these reels? What one would you chose and why?

How do you intend to use it? Jigging, bait fishing, both, private or party boat etc.....

My plan is to use them for bait and trolling

Drop by reel seat. You'll walk out an enlightened man!

I know a lot of offshore guys have been transitioning from large, heavy tiagras to lighter, equally as powerful talicas. They're truly incredible reels and we'll worth the investment. My father is slowly transitioning his tiagra 30s and Penn 30s to talicas. Pretty sure he's keeping the 50s and 80s though.

Trolling and live bait are two different styles of fishing, live bait rods have a softer tip so your bait can swim naturally, i have the 16vsx and the Mak 16llsea, have had both reels for some time, the 16vsx was sent back to replace the plastic button for the two speed selection, they now come with a metal button, both are great reels.

Never fished Shimano.

I fish them both with 100# hollow with ltl so i can change out mt top shot, or you could just splice. Both hold a ton of solid and or hollow core, your choice.

I have the Penn 16vsx on a calstar 770h 50-80 rating for live bait fishing, (can you troll with this, yes but not my first choice ) and the Mak 16llsea on a Makaira 30-80 trolling rod.

No issues with either reel, Okuma comes with a 5 year warranty, I had it serviced after 3years and no issues, same with the 16vsx.

I like the Mak, a little smoother, but overall both great reels.

Stop by Dave, you can play with the reels and pull on them on a rod.
