Interesting catch
1 Attachment(s)
I dont know who this guy is but he showed my buddy a picture of this fish he said he caught by two bridges road and said it was 45 inches. Isn't this a tiger musky? I normally wouldn't post a pic from someone else but I thought this was a rare catch. I never caught a tiger musky in the passaic.

Re: Interesting catch
That certainly is a Tiger Musky! And a beautiful specimen indeed. Congrats to the angler that caught the fish. Any idea if this fish is still swimming?

Re: Interesting catch
Wow, that's crazy! Awesome catch.

Re: Interesting catch
You can say u caught it anywhere on the internet. All my pike really came from Millstone ;)
Greenwood Lake escapee? It would have to have gone from there to Monksville Res to Wanaque Res to Pompton River to Passaic. I would say its unlikely. I'm unfamiliar with their spillways but if they all have over the top spillways(or releases) its entirely possible. More likely somebody threw it in there. |
Re: Interesting catch
I wonder if its the Tiger from Packanack Lake that they released in there not far from 2 bridges

Re: Interesting catch
.
That certainly looks like Passaic River Poison Ivy growing around the trees. :D But I can't confirm it. Musky fingerlings are relatively expensive. It would seem unlikely someone would dump them in the Passaic on a lark. He might have said he caught it in the Passaic as a 'red herring' to protect his fishing spot. I've seen some shore anglers manage to catch big muskies in Little Swartswood. . |

Re: Interesting catch
I don't know what the person did with the fish but isn't that the two bridges parking lot in the background? I agree with you rob. Looks like a low 40s fish. Weird how he is holding it up top away from the water. I also can't imagine that he caught it by the bridge. That water was super shallow all summer. Who knows.

Re: Interesting catch
I wouldnt doubt it came from Packanack. They dumped a lot of fish in the river when they emptied the lake.

Re: Interesting catch
Another beautiful specimen from the MIGHTY PASSAIC. Congrats to the angler should you read this, hell of a catch!! I knew this would show sooner or later, and was obviously hoping I ran into Mr. Muskie on the river but it definitely shouldn't be the only one out there I think. Hope it got let sweet though.

Re: Interesting catch
If I remember correctly, way back a few decades ago the state stocked all the "left-over" tiger muskies in the Passaic above the Dundee dam.
But then they'd have to find their way past the Paterson falls to get up to Two Bridges. A nice catch no matter how it got there. |
Re: Interesting catch
Mix ups in stocking and left overs in the ponds and trucks during the crazy times do happen, as well as natural occurances. The state does its best ,but who complains when a few rouge fish are mixed in with the stocking. Of course illegal stocking is always taking place, but non the less still a great catch and goes to prove what an exciting fishery NJ has!

Re: Interesting catch
I caught a tiger musky in the Rahway River, no idea how it got there but it was 6 inches
I can't believe that was caught by two bridges, it has been really shallow there |

Re: Interesting catch
There are possible 6 versions of the shown picture. Choose what you think.
1. This fish is a descendant from the tiger muskies that were stocked in the Passaic in the 80's. Unlikely they survived this far though. 2. Someone put this in here from another waterbody. 3. One of the several tiger muskies that were put in the Pompton river after the draining of Packanack Lake and then swam down to the Passaic. The tigers were stocked in Packanack by the lake's private fishing organization. 4. This picture is not actually from the Passaic. The most likely option. 5. A tiger directly swam from Greenwood Lake to there. If this is true it is most likely that over time the tigers migrated south. 6. A true strain Muskie/s from Greenwood, Monksville, or Wanaque made it to Pompton Lake/River and naturally reproduced with the pike that already exist there. This would mean there could be more tiger offspring there. All of these options are possible and have been documented in other places. |
