7/5 - MUSHIN Day Troll - 2 Marlin, Tuna, Mahi, & Tiles
1 Attachment(s)
7/5 - Capts. Alan and Chad and Mate Darryl had Vinny, Bill, Chris, Rich Sr and Rich Jr out today - as they said - the "Dream Team" back together again! We set out for a Day Troll to a southern canyon. With lines in at 4:45 am, our first bite was at 500 am - a 350/400# Blue Marlin that inhaled a Islander/Ballyhoo - and fought boatside but unable to be released healthy. Added four nice gaffer mahi to 20# over next couple of hours, and added a 80# yellowfin and lost two others among pilot whale pods in 77-78 degree blue water. Just as the guys were joking around about the chances of a second blue marlin for the day...long rigger line goes off and sizzling line off - was thinking it was a bigeye...but out 300-400 yards we see another Blue Marlin greyhounding away! After about an hour fight, we leader and successfully release an estimated 600# Blue Marlin fought stand up on 50-class tackle on Joe Shute/Ballyhoo. We switched over to tilefishing, and the guys topped off the big fishboxes with blue line tiles to 20#. Smooth ride back to the dock in time for dinner. What a DREAM DAY with not one but TWO Blue Marlin plus tuna, mahi, and tiles. Capt. Chad will add video and pics.

Sweet report, just for future reference... What did you guys get the yellowfin on,and where did us put it in the spread? dying to get something if I get out again sometime soon? Hope I'm not asking too much, but a good question never hurts in my eyes... Awesome report! Thanks for posting.

Re: 7/5 - MUSHIN Day Troll - 2 Marlin, Tuna, Mahi, & Tiles
dfish28 - never a bad question! Most of the times our go-to trolling spread in recent years on the Henriques 44 is an 12 rod combination of Islander-type lures/ballyhoo, Joe Shute/ballyhoo, and Reel Seat and Sterling Tackle spreader bars (squid if squid prominent, machines if baitfish prominent). Our short outrigger line and two lines off transom are Islander/Hoos being pulled at the back edge of our propwash (about 40-50 feet), and I'd say we get 50% of our first bites on these. Sterling Tackle had us test a daisy chain with purple birds and green machine rig this year. We now pull in the center of the spread (about even with our middle outrigger position but off our flybridge rail), and this has been deadly this year!
