Night Kayak Quickie

Got out on the Big Lake last night for some F.T. (fishing therapy). Launched around 7:15 p.m. with near PERFECT conditions. Wind was non-existent, temperature was great, and only one other boater fishing the area I set-up in. Threw the usual spring assortment of lures until something wacked my Bomber hard. After a nice fight, I netted this guy. Quick measurement at 24", a couple crappy pics I won't bother to upload, and back she went, drenching me in the process. Get dried off, cast to the same spot and hooked up again immediately. Fought the fish for a good 10 seconds until it spit the hook. Decided to call it a night at around 9:45 p.m.

Not spawning yet, but they were fairly active. A decent amount of surface activity and bumped into a bunch retrieving my lure.

That's a South Jersey walleye from like Trenton or something. I know, I've caught her plugging for Stripers. Nice fish my BROSKI!!!

In all seriousness, all lakes stocked with Walleye are doing very well but there's one in particular where the numbers are on the decline. If you know the lake I speak of please release all Walleye you catch from this lake. If you don't know the lake than send me a PM and I'll fill you in. Be nice to the Walleye and the Walleye are nice back!

It took me a few years to figure them out, but once you put together some seasonal patterns, they are fairly predictable. They are definitely more of a challenge than catching Largemouth or stocked Trout, which is why I enjoy targeting them. Got to love a fish that you can catch in 2ft of water in April, then catch again in 50ft of water in November!
