My two trips put us over the top. Then we took the boat out for the season!!!! You see it is all of you guys with 25' boats fishing in big seas all winter that catch thousands of limits is the reason!!!!!!!!!!! Please stop this shit and wait until at least Dec 15 not Nov 15 to start black fishing.

If u think what u wrote is the problem first u have to believe their #s

Wait till Dec 15??? Lol easy to say when u say u only do two blackfish charters a season...

U know what that would do... either tie bottomfisu boats to dock or make every bottomfishing charter n party boat fish an extra month of striper fishing...

JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE!!!!

Look around on the front page of the board...

Guess what happens if blackfish gets cut in the fall. Everyone will b jigging their one smaller bass esp the for hire guys who are becoming forced to...

Same with seabass in the spring in our area.

Cod closed in northern areas...

What's everyone going to fish for... STRIPERS!

The big stripe bass reduction will just keep getting cut into bc these issues are often overlooked... forcing boats to fish for bass bc regulations on other species are just becoming a joke.

No balance...

Got ya Capt... couldn't tell if u were serious or not. My apologies. ..

There def is alot more smaller boats that go later in the season. It's becoming more n more popular fisherie But again is 45 days long.

Of the 45 days of the (6 fish) season ... just about 1/2 are blowouts... once u get into January's might even b more than that.

Compared to years past when limits where ALOT more than that.

Seems like facing cut on everything except fluke this year in which regs which are laughable anyway.

Good stock bad stocks... makes no difference... its sad... really its just becoming a joke.

I wonder how many fluke get wasted every year trying to catch a legal size one. Seabass is healthy so it's overfished... We saving the stripers by increasing pressure in both the spring n fall.

A big mess with no solution in sight

going to meetings and write letters is best shot we have, i do and feel likes its a waste of time but....I still keep trying.
Its so sad rules are based on bad data when real data is readily available.

eventually it will force everyone to fly the flag, but its really gonna hurt charters party boats who have to fly by the rules.

sad to see it this way, guess sea bass will be cut in the fall as well.

straight from the article "The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission reports the NewYork and New Jersey stock of blackfish is overfished but not experiencing overfishing,"

what the hell does that mean exactly?

Overfishing Vs. Overfished: The Same Thing?

When you see the word “overfishing” it’s only natural to think this only applies to, well, fishing. Although fishing adds significant pressure, fish stocks can also become “overfished” for many other reasons, including natural mortality, disease, and environmental conditions. Here’s the breakdown.

Overfishing

A stock that is subject to overfishing has a fishing mortality (harvest) rate that is higher than the rate that produces maximum sustainable yield (MSY). MSY is the largest long-term average catch or yield that can be taken from a stock or stock complex under prevailing ecological, environmental conditions and fishery technological characteristics.

Overfished

A stock that is overfished has a biomass level depleted to a degree that the stock’s capacity to produce MSY is jeopardized. A population can be overfished but be managed under a rebuilding plan that over time returns the population to a level that can support the MSY.

Blackfish has a huge poaching problem.

Sub legal fish swim in tanks in restaurants all year.

I've seen this many times in many states.

And legislation will not stop that, only enforcement. It would be nice to see officers question the possession of those fish.

Overfished means that the stock is below a certain biomass threshold, essentially the total numbers of fish are lower than a particular level. Overfishing means that fish are being harvested at a rate that depletes the stock and will drive a population to be overfished.

Since blackfish are overfished but no longer experiencing overfishing means that current harvest rates are at a sustainable level, but the overall numbers are not at the optimal level. In a nutshell, this is indicative of a stock recovering from past overfishing.

Lol government jargon crap !!! Just another way to justify their existence. Clinton must have written that. It all depends what your definition of is is? Either way no one is really working with correct numbers all guesses. I'm for regulation. But only when Otis being done with accurate data.
