Started building my own rods last year for something to do with the terrible winter. Made a new tog rod the other day. Mhx 8' 20-50 xh. Split grips with double wraps. Looks awesome and works great too!

Nice job Togman! I've been building for a couple years. There is nothing more rewarding than catching on a rod that you have built.

I had received a rod kit and a hand wrapper for Christmas a few years ago. I also got some books on the basics. You can also look up rod building on YouTube . After a few builds I picked up Billy Vivonas book on decorative wraps which was a huge help in bringing my builds to another level. Here are a few dec wraps that I have done

Re: Custom tog rod!
just be very careful guys. I started building rods a few years ago just for a hobby and it has become an obsession. I have played with acid wrap and all different types of blanks. just when I thought it couldn't get any worse I discovered weaving, well lets just say I cannot get enough of it. its extremely rewarding to land a fish on a rod I made. I went so far as to buy the software to develop my own weave patterns and have since made some sports logo rods for friends. emailed doc ski for some info and pattern ideas. you see where this has gone. I am by no means a pro at this but I have a lot of fun trying. unfortunately there are no support groups out there for my problem so I have to deal with it alone. seriously there are some inexpensive kits and tons of info out there for anyone that wants to try it. if you are handy you can make a wrapper and dryer out of plywood cheaply and it will work fine. that's how I started. if fact I still have my home made stuff so go for it. remember you have been warned. LOL
