Find yourself a dock in a marina. Put them in the water in a fabric mesh bag or a bucket with a tight lid with 1/2 inch holes drilled all the way around the bucket.

Be careful though.... The hermits are known to attract Shrimp :D

unfortunately I'm not located near a dock. If i throw em in the fridge with wet towels soaked in saltwater will they die?

they are crack to Tog, do what u have to keep them alive, dont get a chance to fish with them a lot, pretty scarce. But when the tog are there they dont last long down there!

agreed but they don't make it to tog when bergals or pin sea bass are around! you did buy marine hermits no pet store hermits right?

If you do find a place to hang in the water make sure they don't lay in the mud

From what I have experienced and seen-on eastern LI and Rhode Island- they greatly outfished everyone else on a boat with approx 20 odd people, they can really level the playing field if your tog skills arent all that. No sure if they would have same effect here in NJ

Got a 14.5 on my buddy's boat with a half a green and two legs(tog code) so what's the chance you can't just throw some mussels down with some shells and killem, that's what's in most of the bigguns stomaches...?

Crack the shell with a hammer to get the Hermit out and put it on the hook whole. It's a fairly soft bait so most will also use a piece of crab on the same hook so if they steal the hermit there is still something to keep them interested.

alright. so I kept 35 out of the 36 alive. just soaked like ten paper towels in saltwater. layered two towels per single layer of crabs. made sure there was no ecess water. threw them in the fridge overnight. the germits stayed alive until 3 pm the day after.

just wanted to let u guys know of a emergency method in case you aren't by a dock like me.

If you are in a swampy area, particularly in brackish waster (like the Navesink or Shrewsbury rivers) Hang them deep in a tamper-proof box, Several times in my younger years I've had them in a wire minnow trap that was raided and pulled apart by some animal...raccoon, skunk, muskrat, I don't know. Same with crayfish in fresh water.
