Boat Trailering ON Garden State Parkway

Good Morning,

Have not been here in a while and was thinking not a better place to ask because I can not get an answer and the run around from the TPA. Are you allowed to trailer recreational boats with a truck with non commercial plates on the Garden State Parkway. I am coming up the NJT and want to hop on the GSP at the Woodbridge exit and head north over the Tapenzee Bridge. I will be driving a Tundra trailering a Jones Brothers 23' back to Boston and do not want to go over GW and up 95 on a Friday.

Thanks,

Dave

I've done it with no issues.

Absolutely, I've made the trip many times. May I suggest running over Tappan Zee to 684 N to 84 E.

Do it all the time. I use Easy Pass and only get charged for the vehicle. All good.

287 N to 87 N to 84 E. A little longer much quicker

No problems with towing without commercial plates.

I would definitely take 287 N to the NYS Thruway to the TZB.

I trailer my boat down every weekend.

Dave lots of people towing boats on the parkway so you will be fine.

Parkway is also 11 miles shorter on your way to TPZee bridge compared to 287 so traffic being the same, your best bet is going to be the parkway.. In order to avoid as much traffic as possible on the weeks days you are going to want to pass through the Woodbridge NJ area after 930 am and before 3:30 pm to avoid work commuting traffic.

Hope that helps and if you need someplace to wait out the traffic or take a rest, I'm right on your way in Edison NJ just a few miles from the Turnpike and Parkway.

Best of luck with the new boat and safe travels.

I thought it was a vehicle size limit... large trucks. Not commercial plates.

NYC has the commercial plate regs. But they love to make laws over there.

Nothing over 5 tons north of 105

What tab 95 said. 95 North to Boston on a Summer Friday can piss off the pope.
