nj skis

Muskie fishing for me this year has been kinda slow. Losing a couple at the boat and plenty of swings and misses. Last night finally boated one that makes all that pain go away. Felt my lure get hung up in a weed patch so I gave it a quick short snap to free it up and then got completely crushed. This fish would not come to.the surface so I knew she was big. After a struggle that felt like forever but was actually only about 40 seconds I got her in the net. I was using a smaller shadow raider and she had to the whole thing in her mouth so I had to cut every hook on the lure. This is why they say make sure you have all the proper tools ready to go. Got it done quickly measured her, took my pics and off she went. 46 inches and fat. I've caught longer but no where near as girthy. Biggest fish of the year before this one was 36 in. I was reading the report and slowly scrolling through the pictures. I was looking at the picture of the first fish and was thinking there was no way that fish was 46". Then I scrolled down to the second fish and immediately thought holy crap lol. Absolutely monster dude, good freakin' job. Jersey fishing at its finest.

Awesome fish Cody. Definitely a great example of why you should have the proper tools. My first trophy would have been belly-up were it not for hook cutters. Congrats again and great job.

Thanks fellas. Ya that definitely wouldn't have ended well for that fish without the cutters and proper equipment. I can't understand how I see people out there without a net and other tools. Not good for the fish and it's why you'll sometimes come across floaters that didn't make it. Really a bummer to see

You're a great advocate for the sport Cody. It's been really cool to see you do the research, put in the time, buy the proper equipment and release tools and catch fish like this. That musky is a trophy anywhere, not just in NJ, and you earned it and deserve it. Looking forward to getting you on my boat at some point.

Re: nj skis

One word on release tools. Other than a proper net, this is the most important tool in a musky angler's box. Some hooks cannot be removed because of how the fish is hooked, and these will cut through a 4x strong 8/0 treble with minimal effort.

Awesome job man. Congrats. All part of skie fishing sometimes go weeks or months without fish then it happens and its all worth it. can't wait to get a troller back on my boat to go chase some skies again. Been over year since I caught one since I changed boats and had an Unproductive ice fishing season for them
