Raritan river walleye 5/4
Woke at the crack of dawn this morning and my initial thought was to head right to the BIG R. Arrived at the river around 630 am, tall guy with the mustache was there. The Towpath is a hot mess, most of the clay sand is gone and you can see how high the water was last week by looking at the garbage hanging in the trees. Wow, the power of Mother Nature. Anyway, you guys know how it goes from here, keep casting til your arms are sore. Plugging away, finally get a tap on some yellow lure I like to throw, Walleye! First keeper sized Walleye of the season for me. Fish went about 20 inches, close to 3lbs. And the casting goes on, BOOM, hook another Eye but she's barely hooked and pops off, DAMN! Oh well, keep plugging away and see if there's anything else willing to chew. I get slammed around 845 am, BOOM, another Walleye. BIG, FAT, FEMALE!!! This fish has weight and balls, get her up the wall and all I can tell you is that this may be the absolute fattest Eye I've ever seen. The fish has the girth of a 5lb Smallie, not real long, maybe 24-25 inches. I'd say this girl had to be in the ballpark of 6-6.5 lbs just because of the girth and belly. That would be the final Walleye of the day, almost landed a RR Walleye limit, almost! All in all a great morning on one of my favorite rivers. YEA BUDDY!!!! TIGHT LINEZ!!!!!!!
P.S. Lots of bait in the river right now. While down there this morning I saw baby eels, baby gills and gizzard shad next to the wall trying to escape the deadly current. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps66c1f754.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9723ebe7.jpg |

.
You are the King of the Weir. Considering the tremendous number of people who fish that spot and walk away with the skunk, your success there is remarkable. . |
