2014 Smallmouth Contest and Meet and Greet April1st-Nov1st
 

Ok so here are the final rules for the contest:

All you have to do to enter the contest is post a picture of the fish under this thread.

In your picture you must have a measuring tape from head to furthest point on the tail (not head to fork of tail).

To prove that its a valid contest fish you must put a lighter in the picture with it.

The fish has to be caught between April 1st and November 1st 2014

Release all these trophies (or at least say you did):mad:

The fish has to come from Jersey waters (Delaware and Greenwood count)

The longest fish will win 1st place (there will be 2nd and 3rd place)

Right now as far as prizes I would like to donate a 1st place prize.. a Carhartt Hoodie customized with a screen printed smallie logo and and some embroidery. I believe Eddie will jump on and put up second and I heard a great idea of some small batch beer for 3rd which would be awesome if that could come through. Were ID'ing the winner lol.
Bigfishy and I are also putting up prizes for the smallest fish and funniest picture. Prizes determined later. Kcritch has a some great ideas for a meet and greet at the end which should be great. Well post about this later in the season as well.

Yes...Just something to have in the pic so guys are'nt posting old pics of fish....
its something cheap that can be in ur pocket or on the boat that will prove its a recent picture....GOOOOOOOOO git em boys....i've already spotted a winner but don't let that throw you off....I'm not a good fisherman:D

Fellas to all that were interested..for njfishing.com site reasons the contest is temporarily on hold for the moment. I will try to work this out and keep all that were interested updated. Hopefully we can work this out but im not sure.

My only concern was with the closed season on bass from April 15th to June 15th. Is it bad PR to be posting bass pics during the closed season. Does PR really matter, heck people hold bass tournaments during the closed season. Is it good to be posting bass pics during the closed season ? It is catch and release only during that time period.

They were probably caught while targeting something else....... :p

As long as they're released unharmed, like I would hope any big smallie would be during this time, no prob, right??

how about a knife by the fish's head instead of a lighter for the picture? everybody brings a knife fishing (and nobody usually takes pictures of it with their fish so it would work just as well), but only smokers have lighters handy.

There could be ten things that one THINKS most ppl have while fishin...
a lighter was cheap thing that was small and easy to put in a pic...
A knife was thought of but we don't ALL carry one...A hat was another idea
but not ALL guys wear hats....Its a lighter period....99 cent entry fee hahaa:D

I like the lighter idea becaues it may help me to rememebr to bring a cigar...which I always think of as soon as I'm out in the middle of the lake and wish I had thought of sooner! :D

Looks like we have good support for this..and it is catch and release which is why were doing it by length not weight. So the closed season shouldnt bring negative publicity or harm fish. Its not like were going to have 50 guys hammer one lake or stretch of river in the same day. What do ya say we have this post stickied so it can stay at the top of the page so that all users can see it and participate easily.

Just got off the phone with Mike Iaconelli, he said he would fish the contest but is currently on tour now. Bummer, I was looking forward to whooping up on him again like I did back in the day on the south Jersey lakes. See you soon buddy.

This is a fun little contest, who's going to bag the winner? Who's been out scouting? I have, spotted quite a few monsters when I was out Sunday morning. Man, there are some serious footballs out there ready to eat.

Personally i carry one but that doesnt count cause i'm in construction....
I know plenty of hard core fisherman that dont....

Kinda sucks fer da smokers....Its all about revenue!!! same as the seatbelt laws....Just like any odd law, enforcement will be the key....Fresh air no longer belongs to the ppl living in it.....

Maybe in our lifetimes it will be like spaceballs....Air in a can fer a premium price:eek:

FIVE days and counting boyz!!! And remember, don't be bashful about posting fish smaller than 20"....Its all fish porn!!! Come april 1st , a 2" smallie will put you in the lead...When larger specimens are posted they will obviously move you into a higher place/ranking....Smallies are such beautiful fish that we would all love to see your honey hole specimens....Don't feel obligated to measure and enter every smallie you catch....Use your best judgement....And pls remember that this is a catch and release contest, so take ur pictures as quickly as possible and try to return the fish completely UNHARMED...(except for the hook hole of course)....If you choose to keep a fish remember to follow all state regulations....

here's something that i thought that'd help sweeten the contest and keep the entries coming in after a few big mommas get posted...

I'll toss in a $25 gift card to a sponsoring tackle shop (TBD) as the prize and at the end of season meet & greet we'll put all the names for people who posted entries (but didn't win one of the other prizes) in a hat and draw a winner. that way everyone's got a chance at something, even if someone finds some 8# footballs in april, hah. sound good?

Funny you should say that...we just got back from the Seafare Chippery.
Fish and chips done right with Tartar sauce, fresh squeeze Lemon and Malt vinegar for the chips.
If I catch a big SMB I'm in...prob. not though:(
