River clean up report 9/7/13:
Good turn out today. A huge thanx to FASTEDDIE for donating a canoe today, they loaded it to the brim.
We all put in at Roberts St. in Raritan Borough on the Raritan river. I think this is the 2nd time doing this stretch. The crews had to stop and unload a fridge and an oven as we got to where the old dam had been. I'm not sure of the actuall numbers but I think it may be 159 tires out of a one mile stretch of river, plus all the other debris we got. Took out at the statue in Raritan and was greeted to a huge spread of food donated from local stores. I had to leave after lunch, the crews put back into the river for more.http://<a href="http://s1333.photobu...psab42e6da.jpg[/IMG] |

I actually put in at Duke Island Park and came down to Roberts St, looking, looking. Found 1 tire, with a concrete center, couldn't budge it, rest of the river on the way down looked great.

Re: River clean up report 9/7/13:
Great job Andy......I know you care alot about the river.....wish the jerkoffs who littered the boat launch today at one of the sheds cared as much.....left a a few bags of fast food all over the launch area(and it wasn't a bear who dragged it over, we saw these punks do it but they were gone when we came in for the day)

Re: River clean up report 9/7/13:
The total for this 1.2 mile stretch of river on 9/7 was 89 tires, 2 house refrigerators, 1 hot water heater, 1 car transmission with torque converter, two steel kegs filled with concrete, 1 sleeping bag, 4 car and truck alternators, 2 radios, several brake drums and calipers, 1 heater core, 1 steel 12 foot A-frame, 2 house carpets, about 20sq, 1 acetylene tank, 1 dish washer, 1 washing machine, several sheets of plywood and paneling, roughly 10 cubic yards of small trash... Yes, this is the short list of what was found!
FastEddie... thank you! We filled the canoe 3 times in 1.2 miles. The grand total for that stretch of river over several clean ups, close to 200 tires! |
Re: River clean up report 9/7/13:
WOW ERIC   Sorry to see there are so many neglectful people out there dumping in the rivers. Great to see people like you and others caring enough to clean things up.
