Re: Passaic River driving me nuts
Passaicriverbasin.com gives you many access points along the river, parks and bridges. The F&G site also shows the stocking map and distribution for Pike. Find a bridge, take a walk, catch a PIKE!!!:D

To be honest, if you're catching sunnies and rock bass you may not be using the right lures. I've had the most success on big chart/white spinner baits. Gold and silver blades seem to work equally as good. Big stick baits work and large spooks and buzz baits have produced some epic strikes. |
Re: Passaic River driving me nuts
Keep throwing those spinner baits !!! My last two trips I had about 15 nice pike.........tonight I fished with my kayak and made about 500 casts in a few "can't miss spots" (about 3 miles away from the last 2 trips) I didn't even get a follow or a hit in 2 hours.
I have been away for a few days, and the river is down about 3 feet from last week, but the water is as muddy as can be. Don't give up....it can all change in a few casts !! Danny V |
Re: Passaic River driving me nuts
They are working on the Bloomfield Ave bridge(both the supports and overpass) in Fairfield so anything downstream of there is going to be muddy despite the river dropping. Water may also turn white from the concrete dust. Upstream of there is fairly clear by PR standards.
Work won't be done until February 2014: http://www.state.nj.us/transportatio...3/041613b.shtm Scary to think that bridge is 74 years old and been though hell with all the flooding. I've been underneath there and it makes u think twice about driving over it. |
Re: Passaic River driving me nuts
Go big or go home! We've been getting them on some pretty big stuff lately, even the smaller ones will hit it. If you are trying specifically for Smallies, go with a 4" Senko.

Re: Passaic River driving me nuts
Took a look at Eagle Rock area this morning, WOW!!!! What a brown poop hole? So damn tainted. Took a couple casts with giant lures and said screw it, I'll go to work for a change. Why so dirty? WTF???

Re: Passaic River driving me nuts
Water was clean as can be, but low in Little falls yesterday.
Im having the same trouble with pike lately.......in my last 2 trips i had 5 pike take huge swipes at my large white spinner tipped with a twisty tail and they have missed EVERY time. very frustrating. these pike are Drunk. |
Re: Passaic River driving me nuts
Fished the river in Wayne today and it has gotten a lot clearer since I last fished on Sunday.
Its very close to usual mid-summer levels. |

Jigman & I are fishing it on Sunday. Gonna try live-lining sewer rats to catch the big one.

I usually prefer artificials, but my kid wouldn't be happy if I stole his rubber ducky.

Re: Passaic River driving me nuts
heading to pet store in a few to grab some feeder rats... add tinsel to legs and tail... rig with large circles and you're set!

Re: Passaic River driving me nuts
You wanna try white or grey? Maybe get both and see which works better.

Re: Passaic River driving me nuts
LOL burn em across the surface. I've witnessed several ducklings go down like this!
