Butt kickin on the dirty shrimp......
 

And I don't mean great fishin.

Took my oldest out today for a shot at Mother's Day stripers. Was a little worried when the latest forecast kicked up, but I figured we'ed give it a shot. Left keyport in a steady 15 knot w wind and had a long bumpy ride to roamer. Set up with hard wind against and picked one fish. My son started to get a touch of mal de mar so we pulled anchor and headed for the beds in hopes of getting out of some of the wind (now blowing 15 and gusting higher). Caught a few out in the ocean and then we hit slack and it died.

At this point the wind kept on commin and I knew it was gonna be a long wet ride back to keyport so decided not to wait out the tide and started heading back to the barn. Took it on the chin pretty good all the way in. My son and I managed 6 fish and a good long ass kickin. Next time there is anything over 15 in the forecast, the dirty shrimp is stayin home and I'm jumpin on a party boat! Never felt unsafe, just gettin too old for the butt kickin.

Next week fluke!

PS: forgot my cell this AM when I left home at 4:30. Haven't felt so out of touch in years! Even though I had my VHF, I felt naked out there with out it!

Steve, glad to hear you made it back safe. Had a few trips home on my 23ftr that had me thinking WTF was I thinking going out in those conditions. Have to respect mother nature, she doesn't mess around and snotty ocean is SNOTTY ocean. Fluke is right around the corner

Cancelled my trip today Monday 5/13. Have a 17' Aluminum center console. Whenever a cold front comes through its 2 days of heavy nw winds. No fun, semi- retired work thur and fri so can pick my days. Looking forward to to fluke opener.

DCM - I would be careful if he was running around the boat naked - don't know what he touched or got naked with on the boat BUT BE CAREFUL - hopefully it was just his half - You might get pink eye - Watch Out

At least you made it back safe with your son - that is all that counts

I had one freind ask me on the way in with a strong west wind if i knew I had a boat not a submarine as the spray was coming up over the encloser and covering the windshield in steady sheets. All I have to say is I'm too old for that snot.
