Biggest of the Year, 38lbs 14oz

I went carping again for 6 hours this afternoon. I ended up with 15 carp and 2 cats. I caught my 3rd biggest carp ever at 38lbs 14oz along with a 22.8, a bunch of teens and some smaller ones. I caught the 38 and a few others on maple flavored puffs and the rest on oat balls. I do an online big 4 tournament run by a carp website every May and they give prizes for big fish and big 4 fish 1st 2nd and 3rd. Hopefully the big one I caught today will eat a pound and a half of my bait and come back to see me next week so I can enter her in the tournament :D

What size hooks do you use ? And what exactly are maple puffs, like the baby food? Seems like they would fall apart on the hook.

Nice fish.

In general, how much chumming do you do?

With the puffs I'm using size 1 or 1/0 and with hair rigged corn or oat balls I use a 4 or 6. The puffs aren't baby food, they are the Arrow puffs which you can find in the health food section of some supermarkets. I dip them in flavorings, like maple. They kind of look like big pieces of popcorn. For chum I start by throwing in 8-10 balls the size of a baseball and I'll throw in another 3 every time I get a fish, or every half hour or so.

Got a 30 2 days in a row! This one ate an oat ball and took off like a freight train. It peeled about 80 yards of line out straight up the bank then shot right to the opposite shoreline. It took me about 15 minutes to land it, the thing was a horse. Just a little 30, weighed 30lbs 7oz.
