Bass Pro Shops coming to The Point in Sayreville
SAYREVILLE, NJ--O’Neill Properties Group has announced that Bass Pro Shops, America’s premier outdoor retailer serving over 110 million customers per year, has signed a letter of intent for a 200,000-sf retail store at The Point, one of the largest new mixed use developments in the United States.
The Point, located just 30 miles from Manhattan and minutes away from Staten Island in Sayreville, NJ, will center around a 3 million-sf fortress mall and entertainment district encompassing luxury retail, waterfront and recreation destinations, along with 2,000 high-end residential units (ranging from 3,000-sf waterfront brownstones to 1,800-square-foot two-story townhomes), 650,000 sf of office space, high end hotels and two luxury marinas. The planned Bass Pro Shops location at The Point will be the size of five football fields with expansive aquariums, waterfalls and museum quality fish and wildlife dioramas onsite along with a huge selection of outdoor gear. |

This project has been on again/off again for a while. Too much red tape and from what I heard there was a paint factory and lead factory on the site years ago. The land is probably toxic. Rather use the local shops anyway for several reasons.

Re: Bass Pro Shops coming to The Point in Sayreville
Just got Basspro catalog in the mail and it listed AC and Sayerville as new stores. I buy local whenever possible and bait will always be necessary. I wonder how many rods and reels are sold locally and what percentage of the local shops business is in tackle.I doubt that many local shops can afford to floorplan every rod that St. Croix,G.Loomis, or 10 other companies make. I would love the opportunity to check out all the tackle out there that these catalog stores offer. Certainly these big stores like Walmart, Sams Club, Home Depot have put a lot of small shops out of business but they also employ hundreds of people--not such a bad thing in this economy. The good thing about living in the United States is that we still have the freedom to shop where we want to--big or small.

I buy all my stuff from the legendary tackle shop in Ship Bottom. Been a customer for over forty years. They ship the items to me unless I am down there.

So there gonna put a giant store next to what smells to be a large sewage plant, cuz that what I smell when there's a westerly breeze from that area as I drive over the parkway bridge! I'd like to know what kind of air scrubbers they'll need for that.

Re: Bass Pro Shops coming to The Point in Sayreville
they definitely could have picked two nicer areas. I guess there are government incentives to opening in areas like those. I worked in several areas in AC and its a bigger shit hole than Newark. Bass pro better put bars on the windows. ;)

It is my understanding that the store in A.C. will be in the area where all the outlet stores are. Actually you will see it as you drive in. I for one will welcome it, not so much to shop, but to have someplace to hang out while the wife shops. It has to work out cheaper for me to stare at the fish in the aquarium than to stare at a deck of cards on a Black Jack table?

Re: Bass Pro Shops coming to The Point in Sayreville
I live in Sayreville two minutes away from the S--T plant and am happy because unfortunetly as time goes by the smaller independant local bait and tackle shops for the most part are gone around my area and All the other generic places like Sports Auth, Walmart, and Dick's are the reason for this in my opinion. The local shops were where you could get tackle repaired or line replaced and always carried what was HOT in the area as well as " in store" made rigs and all those little things that made each place special. Your could have conversations about whats biting and where or a recomendation for a rod or reel by some one who usually was well experienced in fishing and the products they sold. Now a day every place carry's the same generic stuff and makes me mad as hell when i'm looking for rod and theres a hundred crap combo's on the rack. At least BPS will bring a larger inventory of tackle to the area. (NOT looking forward to all the additional traffic in an already very congested area)But it will probably be many years before that happens cause you know how shit works in JERSEY!
