Fishing trips
Guys,
I an looking for suggestions on lake house fishing trips. I have done a bunch with my friends the past few years but now we are looking for new waters. Looking at anything within a 3 hour drive from north jersey in either upstate ny, vermont or PA. Thanks! |
Re: Fishing trips
If you're willing to take a longer drive, I've had a couple really nice trips to Black Lake, NY. Lots of pike and bass with opportunities for musky, walleye or even lake sturgeon. Panfishing is excellent as well. There are few lakeside cabin places that are inexpensive and you can rent boats and get food, bait and tackle. The lake is only about 20 minutes from the Canadien border and we fished one day on the St. Lawrence and I stuck, among other fish, a fatty northern off a weedline in 25-feet of water. The Larry is crystal clear b/c of the zebra mussels so the weedlines grow very deep. It's kind of a cool place if you've never been. I went up to Black Lake twice and caught plenty of fish both times. Totally worth it and I'd go back in heartbeat.
Here's a pic of the northern. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto..._7628211_n.jpg |

i go up to central VT a lot in the summer, but that's a little further than you want to drive. you can't cast into a stream or lake up there without catching trout though. |
Re: Fishing trips
sorry 3 hour drive not mile lol
thanks guys! |

Uhhh...Passaic River! The Adirondacks have a ton of great lakes with a ton of variety. A friend's family has a house up there and I hear lots of secondhand reports of great Pike, Bass, Trout, and Walleye fishing up there. |
Re: Fishing trips
Ever think of doing a float trip on the Upper Big D ?
|
Re: Fishing trips
Lake Champlain is a great bet, maybe a touch over 3 hours but well worth the trip. Pretty much anything you could want to catch is in that lake. There are also a lot of smaller lakes in the Poconos that can provide some great fishing.

Re: Fishing trips
Long Lake upstate NY. PIKE fishing at its best.

Yep. Ticonderoga is a about 3-4 hours and that's what I consider the south part of the lake (even though it's not the most southern point). |
Re: Fishing trips
I would also suggest somewhere in the adirondacks. So many great fisheries up there that are close to each other. Some of the best smallmouth fishing around
|
Re: Fishing trips
Thanks guys.. right now im leaning twards a lakehouse in VT or upstate NY. Most of my friend have Kayaks along with myself so we wanna stick to smaller bodies of water, no longer than 2-3 miles long or so..

Re: Fishing trips
Lake George. 3 hrs, 200 miles from NJ.
I have a cabin on the lake. Spring, lake trout and salmon off docks by streams Summer, trout, salmon, bass, perch, panfish, ect Fall, all of the above. Kayak shop where you can do weekly rentals for a few hundred bucks. You can camp on the islands on the lake which is an adventure in itself. There are a few fishing charters on the lake. Rod bender being one of the better ones. |
Re: Fishing trips
Lake Bomoseen in VT is a very good bass lake. We vacationed up there awhile ago. Holds big bass and I had by far my best day of fishing ever on that lake.

Andrew, this is actually 1 of our options we are leaning twards. |
Re: Fishing trips
Lake bomoseen in vt is a beauty... but you can't beat lake george for variety of fish and overall beauty...

Re: Fishing trips
bomoseen is a good one, but there are quite a few powerboats on it, kind of gets that lake hopatcong vibe, dunno if that's what you are into or if you are looking for a quieter time
you might also check out VT's chittenden reservoir. it is a fantastic walleye fishery as well as being packed up with perch and bass. there are some houses on it, but it is a lot quieter than bomoseen. it's great for kayaks. |
Re: Fishing trips
If you do choose Bomoseen, there's a huge hill covered in slate that leads all the way down into the water. Between my dad, brother, and I we had about 60 bass in about 4 hours, all within the distance of the slate pile. We just dropped Texas rigged power worms, let them hit the bottom, felt the tap tap and set the hook. One after another it was stupid haha. We did go back another time and didn't catch anything there, however. Definitely worth a try though

Re: Fishing trips
Jerry: Lots of great fishing areas in up state N.Y. Question is are u towing your own boat..Or figure on renting a boat, or maybe chartering a trip or 2? Lake George especially the Diamond Point area up to Bolton landing offers great places to stay but boat rental expensive..So if ur bringing ur own boat this is a great spring trip..Bass fishing is great with some Pike & Pickerel mixed in..And Lake trout fishing is great early season..Also good home base for fishing Loon lake, Schroon Lake and of course Lake Champlain..Good Luck on your trip...
|
Re: Fishing trips
I would advise against Loon Lake. Went there for a week with my friends and was very disappointed with the fishing. Plus the lake is smaller and busy. Not an adirondack feel
|
Re: Fishing trips
Thanks guys, we are leaning twards blomoseen but now im a bit concerned about the boat traffic. Is it that bad in the summer? Do you think it will be too choppy for kayaks?
|
Re: Fishing trips
We decided not to do Blomosteen... now pending a few lakes in PA & Upstate..
|
Re: Fishing trips
1000 Islands NY would be my suggestion.... 5 hour drive from north Jersey but well worth it... Crystal clear water that is practically polluted with small mouth and it's a beautiful area as well..
Pleanty of places to rent boats and cabins too. Some cabins boats are must because they are on Islands. |
Re: Fishing trips
thousand islands looks awesome but may be too far and too much boat traffic.. we mainly fish from kayaks, so we are trying to find an electric motor lake or private lake house.. we have a few we have used in the past but we want to try some new waters this year.
|
Re: Fishing trips
Is a cabin a "must"? I've done a few multi day, over night kayak fishing trips in the St. Regis section of the Adirondacks. Beautiful back country canoe/kayak trails that take you through multiple lakes and ponds and connector streams for pike, bass, perch, etc...All paddle only waters with no one hassling you. Tent camping only. I can send you a few route suggestions. Portage carts are highly recommended for portages.

Re: Fishing trips
Jerry,
Check this link out. It was from a kayak specific web site. I never heard f thats town in NY which they spoke about but it sounds nice. Understood that LG has already been done by some guys in your group but for me that place never gets old. http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/com...ad.php?t=85818 |
Re: Fishing trips
I'm planning a trip with my friends this summer. I've been looking at Friends lake in the adrondacks. It's private. Haven't really heard how the fishing is though
