Well to all that are sitting listening to the weather, live at bayview condos right at the beginning of the navesink river next to sandy hook marina. Things aren't looking good, water level 2 ft from top of bulkhead. Sandy going to give me one between the cheeks on this one. Guess should have had flood insurance, of course that would have meant less fishing. Best of luck to all!!!

A special BEST OF LUCK to the captain that is anchored up in the middle of the storm.

Belmar and Sandy Hook currently forecast for tide height of 11' tonite. Bergen Point in NY may pass 12'. These will be historic tides. This storm is breaking all the rules. It WILL be strengthening as it hits the coast and it WILL come ashore PERPENDICULAR to the coast in an unprecedented manner maximizing storm surge to its north. Be safe all.

11 feet would be devistating!! As of the 8:00 AM update it looks as if the storm has started to make it's turn. Now moving NNW.

News 12 N.J. was in Atlantic Highlands. It's 9 A.M. and the water is over the docks. Trim tabs should be pretty close to the edge of the wood if not over the dock pretty soon. There could be some damage to those boats that are not tied up right. One funny story from a boatyard in Ocean County........A boat owner who was hauled and up on blocks near the end of the yard near the water wanted to dig a hole and drop his anchor because he was afraid the water would flood the yard and float his boat away. The marina owner said that he would drop the anchor for him, but it would be attached to the guys car.

Took a ride to the county park at 9:00 AM seen the Passaic River come over its bank. That was a half hour after high tide, tonight should be a good one with all the rain starting.
Be safe.

News 12 NJ has reported that from Beach Haven to the southern end of Long Beach Island is under water. Winds at Harvey Cedars are 75 sustained. I'm sure Ship Bottom and Surf City is under water. Long Beach Township and Beach Haven Emergency Management is using high profile vehicles to get those who stayed off of Long Beach Island. They are asking that you park at the Engleside and await evacuation.

This is so sad for all of us. The area all us natives call "Down the Shore" is going away.

The next "sticky" will be asking for your memories of the Jersey Shore.

Good luck to all of you

Miracle

The storm SPED TO THE COAST and has made landfall. Record low pressure measured in Atlantic City. Rain has stopped here, winds have dropped. Was able to use grill for hot dogs, amazing (power is out). No doubt many have already been affected and many more will be from power outages, but this could have been even worse if the storm hadn't made the beeline for the coast. Still going to be historic, my thoughts with all.

We will have a lot of wind out of the South now. Probably more rain later tonite and tomorrow.

If I am not mistaken, it is the NY reservoirs that are not lowered BEFORE the rains, that spill all that extra water down the Delaware?? I remember some folks in Minisink Hills along the Delaware that brought that point to light after those floods you mentioned. It would be irresponsible if that is the case once again, and people have to deal with un-necessary flooding.

Cantore of the weather channel was so disappointed by Irene. Now he is surrounded by water. And there is a fire in his area. How disappointed is he now that he is in danger.

Re: Storm Thread

Tide gauges started to drop around dinner time but then they shot right up again. Near 14' in Sandy Hook and the Battery. I feel lucky sitting here with a generator running. But my goodness the wind is howling again outside after near 4 hours of calm. Seems this thing came ashore and stopped.

Took a ride around town, I'm without power but neighboring towns have power. Chinese food was open, only thing open. Figures. Cleared 3 trees from roads with my 9 year old. We beat the weather back home, wind is howling again 30+ or more. Thankfully the generator drowns some of it out because it is no fun hearing it in the dark.

Listening to scanner of structure fires in Brigantine. FD tried to get there but water up to windshield and now they are trying to rescue the firefighters with a deuce and a half. This is a nightmare of epic proportions. My thoughts with everyone.

And to think if this thing hadn't got to the coast as early as it did this would all be even worse.

Re: Storm Thread

Up here in Morris County the wind is howlin. Luckily we still have power but the other half of the neighborhood is dark. I guess that makes up for the storm last Halloween when we were without power for 4 days. Knock on wood.

Good luck to everyone!
