Caught this little guy earlier this year in the Passaic and was wondering if anyone knew which species it was. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of Muskie. Either a stocker tiger or a juvenile pure. Small Pike. I had one Saturday morning that looked EXACTLY like this guy. I'll try to get a picture up.

Beautiful fish though. Love the stripes towards his tail.

Ya I guess it could be a pike. It's tOugh to tell when they are small but I was thinkin it had a Muskie looking head. Anyone know what kind of condition the Passaic is in?

Looks like a pike. It's easy to confuse the different members of the esox family when they are young. Pike have bars when they are juveniles that break up into spots as they age. Sometimes the bar patterns will remain (usually dots arranged in bars) even after the fish reaches over 30". I've seen these confused with pike/pickerel hybrids and tiger muskie a bunch of times on the Internet.

Low, slow, and warm. I use the USGS water tables to scope out the river conditions. They have stations set up all along the river, but here is the Two Bridges one http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?01389005

Low slow and warm it was lol. Felt like we were fishin on a lake. Fished for 2 hours. It was pretty quiet My buddy missed 2 and I also missed 2 and both would have been PB's. Pretty bummed but Gotta love that river

Some of the stations only have a few parameters such as flow or water level. The Two Bridges one seems to be one of the most detailed. Little Falls, Dundee Dam and Pine Brook are up there as well.

I was out over the weekend, checked out some new areas I hadn't fished before up towards Fair Lawn and Paterson. Was very surprised the whole stretch was mostly shallow with bottom ranging from small rocks to a bedrock bottom with huge boulders mixed in. Only got 1 Pike towards the dam, but lots of angry Smallies along the stretch upstream that we scouted out...
