NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
1 Attachment(s)
I'll let you decide. I know it wasn't us last year, the entire state had a hard time catching trout on opening day due to very low water temps.
I know alot of people prefer smaller streams on opening day and not large rivers. We need a spot with ample parking and plenty of room, that in itself is hard to find on opening day. Should we get 2 inches of rain the day before you might as well forget about it. If we get a spot, I'll bring the donuts and kawfee. |
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
Im definately in. Im sure there will be a couple of fish at Duke Island but you never know. I cant think of anywhere else we could meet that has ample parking. I say we catch some trout and then go to my spot on the Passaic and liveline them. I dont know but whatever goes down IM IN!!! If that doesnt work out ill be in the back of the bay catching STRIPERS!!!

Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
so here I am again scratching my head "duke island park?" and that is of course... where? is that. Lol growing up in monmouth county I feel most of us young bucks were scared to try anywhere far...ESPECIALLY if we had to go all the way over the big bridge! Now I am a seasoned commuter of nj and just have to pinpoint more areas. thanks in advance - Adam - now lives in Woodbridge and commutes to Red Bank every day.

Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
google says 27.4 miles and 40 minutes. thats the same time it takes for me to get to the manasquan or less, how are the conditions there, rocky, sandy, muddy?
|
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
All 3 conditions there. If you fish the muddysqun, you will love Dukes...see you then.
|
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
Duke Island Park has it all, big slow pools, fast moving water over shale flats, and a huge waterfall with hold over trout.
|
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
Duke Island may not have the most fish of any Opening Day spot, but I can't think of a better place to accommodate a large group where you won't be shoulder-to-shoulder at 8:01.
Besides, if Eddie's bringing the scotch, I may be too drunk to fish! :D |
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
Sigh... :(
Must be the fishing-gods having a laugh that opening day always coincides on my wife's birthday. Location would have been perfect for me but no way I can get out that morning. Hope you guys have much better luck with them stockies than last year! |

Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
I would be wiliing to drive a little, regardless of the location. None of my passaic spots would be good considering I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to park at some of them. :D
So far so good though......... |
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
So we got Andy, Wilson, Lard?, Fast Eddie and who else?
Hey FE will Bob make another appearance this year? |
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
Wilson, I do believe Bob will be making another appearance this year. Although he was not fond of that stretch of river, Im trying to convince him to come along. Im willing to give Duke Island another shot, YEEEEAAAA BUDDDY, DRINK, DRANK, DRUNK!!!:D

Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
I'll be there! Might have to bring some Jack. If the fishing was like it was last year, at least we can catch a buzz (my g/f might join as well...so watch out, she's got a knack for catching big fish!), plus she can be my DD :D
|
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
Sorry, I can't join you guys this year. Will be in Disney World with my younger kid for Spring Break....
|
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
Bring any tackle you want to swap or trade. Bring any magazines (no, not porn, fish porn, yes) you want to let go of. I gotta get some stuff from Shucker, unless I see him sooner. I'll bring the ski poles (aka wading sticks) if anyone wants one. Swap, trade, or sell, it will be a good time for that.

|
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
Well if we don't catch any fish within 2 hours, we can always head to Boundbrook and do the BB SHUFFLE!!!!! Ill buy the first round!!!:D
|
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
I'm in too; new to fresh water fishing; Would live to hear from the experienced ones; I live in Woodbridge and trying to find out good trout spots around.
|
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
I'm out on this.. I never fish for trout and im over an hour away from duke island.
|
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
If it's still at Duke Island Park then I'm happy to report I'm in! :)
|
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
Duke Island Park it is. Back parking lot. You have big deep pools, large runs, and for the lazy, a very large waterfall.
|
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
Never been to DISP... is there enough room for fly casting? I know, I know. Fly casting on opening day is ridiculous, but I can dream!

Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
I guess with the low water Duke Island Park is looking better and better.
Most of the other smaller water you will be able to step across, that and the fact I'm sure that all the birds in the area are big and fat by now. Bring tackle to swap, trade, sell. |
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
Re-lined all the reels, straightened out all the lure boxes, greased up the reels. I might even let the wife wash my vest:rolleyes:
Went by Spruce run Creek this Sunday...you could spit to the other side:eek: |
Re: NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:
If there wasn't so much trout water between me & Duke Is. I'd be on board myself. Most streams getting lower by the day!
I know one thing come first soaker it'll be like fishing in the hatchery! Good luck to everyone ! |
