Fish ID?

Found dead on the bank at Round Valley. It was about 14" long.

Crazy as this is to say it looks like a tilapia? Way to round and colors do not match up with those little red eye rock bass. Maybe a pet that was let go and died due to the water cooling down! Just my thoughts!!

looks like the eye is missing to me. more confusing, how did your reply show up before my suggestion of rock bass? something funky with the timestamps is going on...

Re: Fish ID?

my opinion- definitely not a rock bass.. body shape, fins and mouth are way off

i would vote an oscar from a local pet shop... dumb people not knowing what to do with their pets once they get too big for the tank.. would expect to see some more orange color on the belly for a common oscar though.. could have been there for a while though

Definitely not native. Appears to be an oscar or some other kind of cichlid. It's hard to tell since the colors are so faded.

When I first saw it I thought tilapia and then my thoughts went to oscar. I figured someone let it go and then the water got too cold.

That's a common aquarium Oscar for reference.
