2 day NJ offshore adventure can be a reality!

Well here is the opportunity but we will need to move quick.
I have been talking with Capt. Bob of the Gambler and he is game to run a 2 day canyon trip.
20 guys
Depart noon September 28th
Return noon September 30th
$495 a head is the preliminary cost being tossed around.
Hardcore offshore marathon!

Who's in?

Re: 2 day NJ offshore adventure can be a reality!

i would be tentative, just need a break down on what we would be doing.

Also if you look back in the past few years, the best tuna fishing has really been in the july and august time frame, plus a much better shot at getting a 48 hour window of weather IMHO.

Either way should be a good trip, but end of september into october = wind and seas!

I wanted to be on this one . I have end of Month at one of my other jobs and can't get out of it . If I was to pick a time to go Offshore for Tuna it would be the last week of Sep. first week of Oct. .

Ok guys, call Mary Ann in the Gambler office directly to book your spots.
732-295-7569
Don't delay. Let's fill it up quick and lock it in.
You all know the drill. Boarding and bunk selection will be in booking order.
There are more than enough bunks for all and with 20 guys on the Gambler lots of elbow room for all.

Let's "Getem on the Gambler"!

A big thanks to Captain Bob for offering this one of a kind trip out.

I like this idea but can't swing the time frame this year. I would love to see this get started and maybe become something on this coast. I keep hearing my buddy talk about his long range trips in Cali and how I really gotta go.

Re: 2 day NJ offshore adventure can be a reality!

Should be a good time and good trip...

But fishing in nj, is nothing like fishing in california. There will never be a nj long range fleet, what would we fish for? go offshore, catch yellowfin, longfin, swords at night, mahi and tiles during the day, come inshore and catch some cod and pollock, then inshore for some seabass, finish it off with a little fluking at the rocks and then some blackfishing in 35ft off long branch? lol just breaking ballz guys..

California doesn't have 50+lb Yellowfin , Bluefin that you can jig , Night Swords , Mahi , or Big Eye Wolfpacks within 60 - 100 miles . To get away from the line shy live bait only fish California boats have to travel a day or more one way . Having fished on both coasts I like my odds better here . Give me a dumb chunk fish everytime !

Re: 2 day NJ offshore adventure can be a reality!

I think this is great what BB is doing. I've often thought it would be very cool to have some San Diego style long range boats running out of NJ, NY or DE but it sure would be tough in the Fall with the weather we get offshore. I've gotten to the point now where I EXPECT Fall canyon trips to get blown out. :( I fished a full season out of Fishermen's Landing in San Diego and NEVER ONCE had a trip canceled due to weather!! Guess that's why it's called the Pacific...

In all the years of fishing out of San Diego I only had one trip canceled due to weather (Seaforth AM halfday) . We fished off the stern of the San Diego in the slip .

When Muldune & I did our long range EXCEL 5 day trip, fished the chunk with 30# test, our bluefish rigs...80# rigs on the troll...chunk caught bfts & lfts all 30-40# class fish...not quite like here.

It would be nice, but I don't see a long range fleet here on the East coast...be content knowing you can make at least ONE 48hr trip this year..we might be setting the precedent for the future...Only time will tell!!!
Thanks to Charlie Tuna and Capt. Bogan, we'll git 'er done;) :) Oh yea, check's in the mail for Sept. and for the Oct. trips...

Just spoke with Mary Ann --trips is already 1/4 full (that is 5 guys). Don't wait. I like the idea of starting off our canyon season with this trip. We'll be locked and loaded.

Thank you, Charlie for getting this trip off the ground.

I'm really looking forward to this one. With only 20 guys we'll have plenty of elbow room.

The Gambler's got plenty of room for gear. I'll have 5 or 6 different setups onboard. Gotta be ready for anything. :D

BC I quite agree...I'll be bringing my usual 80#, 50#, 30# and jigging rods, a couple of trolling lures(green machine, etc).. I'll be tuna jigging under you guys if we have to go pot hopping...and maybe a 'hoo:eek:

Like Keith said, bring it on...

I got some swordfish rigs at the NS tackle shop by the Voyager. Good quality crimps on what looks like 300lb leader. They have circle hooks though, which I'm still a little uneasy with.

Haven't had the opportunity to try them out yet.
