A friend sent this photo of a shark that they claim was caught on the beach at Donovans.

Did the identify what species it is? Hard to tell from picture but does resemble a baby great white??

No other info except the picture. I went down to DiGiglios to see if they knew about it but they were closed.

There was a 6 footer in the lavallette surf today right in the wash. Didnt get the ID of what kind but defenitly kept people out of the water.

During the Elks Fluke tourney we were off of the Mansaquan reef and spotted a shark, thought to be as small Great White but not confrmed. A bit south but they travel.....

By no means an expert...yet....but doesn't the sand tiger have a more rounded front? And teeth appear to be different? Dorsal fin does appear to be back further and equal fin size in back.....characteristic of sand tigers

I agree with the majority. It's probably a Sand Tiger. The dorsal fins are the give-away. A Great White has one big dorsal and a very small adipose fin. Still, must have been a shocker to see it coming in..

I enlarged the photo and can see spots. So I did a little searching on Sand Tigers and found this:

The adult’s body is light brown to gray above and paler below. Young sand tigers often have small, dark spots that may fade as the animals mature.

Regardless of what kind it is, I have to agree it must have been a shocker when it hit the beach. No more swiming for me :eek:

The past few years, I've seen several dorsal fins closer and closer to the beach as I've gone out the inlets fishing. Never really gave it too much thought on how big these guys were getting, obviously big enough whatever species are present.:eek: :eek: Kids will be at my ankles in the water.....

there are sharks all over the surf, I got a bunch last year at night in manalokin. We got a couple that were comparable in size to that one. I was scared to land the large ones, they run through the surf like 30 mile per hr when fighting them jumping in and out. Awesome catch!

I heard about a shark sighting off Union Beach. Of course there are no pictures of the maneater...
OMG I'll never go near the water again!:)

Now we know what split open the dolphin off SH....lol

i say Sand Tiger used to see lots of em in delaare bay, i'm more scared of bluefish and calico crabs in the wash then sharks

Looks like a Grey Nurse Shark . They have one at Jenkinsons aquarium.

I saw on the news tonight and they showed seaside heights with sharks in the surf and one was right up on the sand.
