Violation Fines….

Yes I coulda googled but it’s easier to ask here and I’m the poster child for laziness.

What’s the fine for short or over length fish kept or over bag limit kept?

Is the fine different for commercial operators (headboat/charter)compared to a rec guy in his own boat?

In NJ who can dole out these fines? Is it strictly CO’s or can town, county and state PO do the same?

Did not know any cowgirl fans not originally from that part of the state were allowed to become members.

Teeter is HOT 🔥 How can you not be a cowgirl fan? Fine note - we were checked in the tuna fleet last week by NY state police boat/ told us they were hired by NOAA and only noted your infraction- NOAA would contact you later with ticket. We were good but a buddy had bass in the boat outside of 3 miles/ let him keep fish and 2 weeks later hasn’t got NOAA love letter. We were checked in Hudson by fish and game and told us most of there cases come from social media these days….Stay safe out there Gentlemen 🐟

I saw a game warden ONCE, they checked our clams and we were legit.

I think locally regulated and federally regulated fish have different fines.

Last Sunday Fish & Wildlife meet me at the road after walking in from the islands in Rumson. Asked to see my license. Then asked to see my clams. Said you have mostly smaller ones here, what do you use to measure? Showed him my paint stirrer with a 1 1/2" painted line. He said your good to go.

Two guys behind me were still with him by time I packed up and drive off. Not sure what happened.

LMAO. You kill me Dave:D. I’d say don’t kick a man when he’s down but I think I’d rather be a Cowboys/Bruins fan right now as opposed to a Giants/Rangers fan!!!!

Back to the original question…….reason I ask is to determine what agencies can actually ticket and enforce fish codes? Again getting back to this whole striped bass closure and asking the question……who in the hell is going to enforce the law?

Clamming is prohibited on Sundays in New Jersey, with the exception of a few areas:
Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers: Clamming is permitted from November 1 to April 30 in these rivers.
Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook Bay: Clamming is permitted on Sundays in these bays.
Other rules for clamming in New Jersey include:
Shellfishing is only permitted between sunrise and sunset.
Shellfish cannot be harvested from condemned waters, even for bait.
Shellfish can only be harvested on public grounds using hand implements.
A shellfish license is required.

Ummm…..ok. Is that just your random thought of the day? What do the clamming regs have to do with the original question?

Guy on our boat insisted on keeping a short fluke. You guessed it, game warden shows up. Fined him $80. Don't know if that's the standard charge, or he cut us a break.

Capt Ron, so what is your responsibility as a head boat owner in regard to regs? Are you responsible to enforce? Are your deck hands? Who gets the fine if out of compliance fish are kept? You or the fare?

And what’s the cost of the violation? Trying to get back to the original question I posed.

Re: Violation Fines….

Duffman,

I have no idea what the fines are, and I don't want to find out. My crew measures all the fish that come aboard and everyone knows the rules. Can someone break them, of course but it's on them.

I would think the person in possession of the fish is responsible. Couple years back we were fishing Ambrose channel .2 miles over the NY line. DEC boarded us and found 7 Short (NY) Fluke. 5 were 1/2 inch 2 where 1/8th, I couldn't believe it, anyway I told the officers that I would take the ticket and I did. Had to go to that shit hole in Staten Island to court. Actually, negotiated a settlement and when I was leaving the room the two young officers were High fiving each other like they broke a major case. That was 4 days before Christmas!!
