PB Bass and Carp on the Fly
I don't think I've posted yet this year, but I've been lurking and enjoyed seeing everyone's posts!
I've been doing a lot of fly fishing this season, but also decided to try out fishing with larger baits for bass which has wound up paying off. The two biggest bass I caught weighed in at 5.5 and 4.5 lbs. https://i.imgur.com/t7Z8atp.jpg https://i.imgur.com/W5Dn9l0.jpg I've started fly fishing for carp which has been a lot of fun, but a bit tricky. I've found the best way to catch them to be casting ~5-10 feet in front of them and letting the current carry the fly to the carp. Here's one of the better ones that I caught. https://i.imgur.com/VirssGy.jpg This past week, I did some more fly fishing for Pike and managed to catch this guy on a self-tied streamer. https://i.imgur.com/r1XYnQf.jpg After that, I hit up a stream and managed to land my first two brown trout. https://i.imgur.com/aLEFNld.jpg https://i.imgur.com/AuNKuli.jpg |
Re: PB Bass and Carp on the Fly
Carp are the most difficult fish to catch on a fly.

Re: PB Bass and Carp on the Fly
Simply amazing and a huge accomplishment.
Out of curiosity, what kind of flies did you use for the large mouth? also what size tippet did you use for the pike? Beautiful brown.. |
Re: PB Bass and Carp on the Fly
Dude! For just starting out fly fishing! ???? Your killing it man! Nice job👍

Re: PB Bass and Carp on the Fly
The way he is holding the brownie, I doubt he is a beginner.
and the fact he caught a carp on a fly? that is one of the toughest fish to catch on a fly and you have to make a perfect cast without spooking the carp a few feet in front a carp and you have to sight fish the carp. He is definitely a pro. And the sizes of largemouth? Look where he is fishing - no back casting room. and he probably used sinking tip? these are tough conditions for fly fishing. |
Re: PB Bass and Carp on the Fly
Nice job getting out there and accomplishing something you set out to do. Results look great, congrats!!

I got those two largemouth on bigger swimbaits - a 4.5" sunfish swimbait and a 6" perch swimbait, but I have had a lot of luck fly fishing for bass with streamers and poppers. For the Pike, I've just been using the 4x tippet that came with my combo and tied a foot long wire leader onto the tippet. |
