no fluke
party boat out of Atlantic highlands 51 people fishing total four keepers that's right four keepers on the whole boat. good thing we have regulations, that's the proof state says F U recreational anglers. Protest all you want wonder why guys don't attended meetings, waste of time.

Re: no fluke

Re: no fluke
Hey Fish, it seems to be the kind of year that you have to follow the fish. A month ago we could only find Fluke in the Manasquan River and back bays none or few oceanside. Now you can put a good catch from south of the hook to south of Point Pleasant, in my opinion that doesn't count for much they are on the move with the bait. A month ago we would see boats like the Gambler run all the way up north and fish with the Belmar boats now its the opposite the Point and Belmar boats are just heading East a little bit. Maybe the boat you fished on didn't want to burn the fuel. just my 2 cents

Re: no fluke
South of sandy hook to maybe deal in the ocean

I had 8 keepers today to 10.2#

Re: no fluke
Unfortunately Joe many us don’t have secret spots or numbers when one does it’s catching not fishing. Just feel sorry for that Captain he is good which sucks for business. Years ago you could get eight no far from the inlet.

Re: no fluke
If you were on a 1/2 day boat they don't have time to get to where the fish moved to. Stick to 3/4 day or better yet head south to Brielle.

Re: no fluke
i'm sure he has good numbers been fishing as a kid its bad, your better off in florida shrimpy .

Re: no fluke
I stopped reporting on fluke because it is that bad finding legal ones. Having said that, Ambrose is just about drop and catch for juveniles with the wonder rig in the right places at the right time. And that has been for the past three weeks with legal fish becoming increasingly rare (30/1 yesterday)

Re: no fluke
Catching keepers seems to be tough unless you fish rocky bottom or wrecks out in the ocean. Most of the time this is tough fishing for party boats with anglers get snagged on the bottom all over the place. One guy at my marina caught over 11 nice sized keepers on his boat but he fished the rocky area's and lost over 30 bucktails. It seems like an expensive hobbie even if you make the bucktails yourself. That being said it's no surprise that a lot of anglers get skunked or just catch shorts all day. The regulations really need to be reviewed and changed so people can bring home at least a meal or 2 after spending the $$ they do trying to bring home a catch. Tight lines!

Re: no fluke
interesting this is from Capt Monty on Fluke
As for flounder, we must work through the “Sandy Slump.” Because summer flounder spawn from late September to early November, hurricane Sandy (October 22, 2012) hit at the worst possible moment. What would normally be a nurturing sea where many fertilized eggs survive suddenly became a harsh environment indeed. A 19 inch fluke (Fluke is what they call Summer Flounder from Jersey north) would have been spawned in 2012.. The good news is there are more smalls all the time. This important fishery shall soon rebound. |
Re: no fluke
There seems to be a few posters whom make it think it’s not even worth it to fish a boat out of AH. I’m sure the bay is kinda dead, as it usually is this time of year, and Ambrose hasn’t turned on, but can’t believe the ocean off the NY side and ocean down the Hook is dead.

Re: no fluke
Let’s all be honest. Fluking is about several things. First is conditions, second is location and last but not least is the angler a hack. So I say always fish while you can. Check winds a tides and learn to hone your skills.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't. And even if you do, there's no guarantee you'll have the conditions and the fish. Welcome to the life of a party boat captain... The struggle is real and it's not easy. |

Re: no fluke
I think the point is the half day boats don't have the time to run to great numbers on the SH reef, Shrewsbury rocks, or a nice rock pile off the red church. These captans sure have the knowledge of where the great fishing is but unfortunately the ride there and the ride back would leave you with a half hour of fishing. If your looking for more then a 4 hour trip that allows you to get into the deep rough stuff hit a 3/4 day boat, or one of the many great open boat sponsors that specialize in big fish, rough bottom fishing. Then again every year there's a 12 lb fish caught in 14 feet of water on the knoll so it's a crapshoot!!! My pops biggest is 13.6 caught at the tip of the hook at the 13 can on a live snapper while fishing on the Angler, so it's all about putting in your time, adjusting to the conditions, and having the right baits with you!!!
