New Stretch of River (at least for me)

I got out early Saturday morning to fish a section of the Rockaway river that I have never fished before. Only had about 2 hours but I managed to land 3 rainbows and lost a few more. I didn't spend too much time at each pool because I was using this as more of a scouting trip then a fishing trip. I did notice the area was full of water snakes sunning themselves on the rocks.

Here is some trout porn for ya...

Something special about exploring rivers. You really just never know what you're gonna get. Especially secluded ones; you might be wading through an area practically untouched.

I want to start exploring more of the headwaters on a couple of the rivers I fish. Hopefully I can find some browns & brookies!

Nice trout, surprised you didn't get any Smallmouth.

No smallmouths but I did get a sunfish and I saw some big creek chubs.

There are some big ones in there for sure. In the less fished spots I've gotten some close to 13 inches. Wild fish!

13 inch creek chubs or fallfish just to be clear? Cause big creek chubs are a rarity for me.

Fall fish, I have a habit of using the term creek chub for both but I'm referring to fall fish. There are some brutes in there. You can tell by the number and size of them where the bait fishermen aren't fishing.

nice fish. the worst part of exploring rivers is when you find those damn chains blocking access. You'll find some area on google maps, go there, hike through the woods, wade for hundreds of yards and then boom no access. It has to be the most ridiculous thing in this world that if you have property on either side of a big navigable river you can close the water off. really starting to piss me off more and more.

and now we have guys kicking us out of non-posted spots claiming they own it and i have to then go look it up online. The most recent one was claiming he owned much more property than he actually did after i looked up the property lines.

maybe there's a loop hole, someone told me as long as you're floating you can go through....so i can finally put some use to my homer donut inner tube...

I see, I learned lately that folk fish them out for bait. I'd always find the bigger ones away from the most accessible spot.

Re: New Stretch of River (at least for me)

I hear you Chrisper. That's some bs.

I was fishing under some bridge one time and a young man drives up and asks me to leave , kindly and even gives tips on some other holes to fish, cool dude. But I found it funny how if I was just 20 ft away on the other side I was alright. I got nothing against him though.

I bet people that have to put up wire and signs up on there property have had problems with anglers / hunters before. I wish more streams were open to the public somehow.

I know I would cause people are slobs, most people are grateful and polite but they don't get noticed. It's the idiots that do and ruin it for everyone. I know if I had property I'd post it. I don't need the hassle of cleaning up after people abuse it. Look at what the slobs do on public land! I saw a kid pull down his pants and take a dump on the beach at Swartswood then bury it. The parents (?) just went on watching as if that was completely fine. Sickening, people don't give a shit if its not their stuff.

If the river/stream is considered "navigable", then you can float through private property, but you can't fish without permission.

Big ISO's popping last night. Got a few on a march brown wet. Had a few others come off. Lots of wild fall fish too! Still good action and bugs hatching.

It's more the face that they can OWN the flowing river basically chaining off sections if they own both shorelines, but what really got me is now people are just claiming they own areas with no postings or chained off sections...I've been studying the tax property map and i can't wait til one of these douche bags tries to kick me off of public property.

anyone know if there is a fine or penalty for falsely claiming ownership over public land?
