Greenwood Lake Accident -Reward offered

This is tragic! I hope they find the vessel and the motorist that did this! http://www.nj.com/passaic-county/ind...condition.html

A huge problem with boating on Hopatcong and Greenwood is these guys with big motors have no regard for nearby or anchored boats. They fly around at wide open throttle dangerously close to other boaters, usually waking the sh*t out of them in the process. Scoward and i fished Greenwood a few weeks ago and were amazed at the idiots coming full throttle in between us (spot locked) and a pleasureboater anchored no more than 100ft away from us.
During the day is bad enough, but add darkness to the equation and it's friggen scary. We've been out many times, day and night, where we've had to yell/wave/shine spotlights to quickly approaching boats, only to see them quickly change their course. Many boaters operate their boats as if they are driving a car. Unfortunately, boats don't have brakes, don't have the steering response a car has, and offers little protection incase of a crash. And as was the case in this accident, many do not observe the night time speed limits.

Anyone I've fished with on the big lakes has heard my rant on "Boater Etiquette". Most NJ boaters have very little of this and unfortunately, it leads to accidents such as this one.

Airborne??? Geez Louise think they might have been going a tad fast?

Have to make these lakes no wake. Better safe then sorry. If you want to "open it up", there's this large body of water to our east called the ocean...have fun.

Hopatcong has a speed limit of 10 MPH after sunset, I wish the police were out there when the bars close and people are flying around like it's the Indy 500.

X3 you need to have your head on a swivel at all times. I try to stick along the shorelines so one side is protected.

At skunk. The best is when they drive between 2 stopped boats and wave. I shake my head and throw them the salute. all common sense seems to go out the door.

And this is why I do NOT take my boat out in the summer for anyone that was wondering! Too many crazies out there that id rather not deal with! You'll find me on my POS 6 months out of the year weather permitting! Fall fishing is almost here and the *******S will be off the water and out of the way! Thank god! Send the speed demons back to school or college or wherever the hell they belong!

Damn shame people have to get injured and suffer because of an IDIOT!!! Hope he gets all his licenses revoked with some jail time!!! LOL! That's a pretty boat in the article! I'd like to take a piss in the gas tank..........

SAD SAD story, let's just hope that they have a full recovery. Probably a good chance the boat that hit them were drinking, I hate to say that, but most accidents happen with alcohol involved. During the hot summer day's I like to stay local, and stick to my elec. motor only lakes, with Squan being 15 minutes away, no need to go elsewhere. Now that the fall is coming, and all the idiot's closed up their summer homes (not all idiot's) and the cool weather arrives, is the time I start fishing bigger lakes. Just really pisses me off that they ran these poor people over and basically just left them for dead. I truly believe in KARMA, one way or another, they will pay for what they did.

It would be very easy for law enforcement to patrol these lakes and doll out one fine after another. It would pay for itself. Make the fines $2,000 so it stings and changes behavior. People's lives are at risk and someone will be killed, just a matter of time so why wait for it to happen. And then when it does, the ******* leaves the scene! There should be prison time, seizure of property and stiff fines. Doesn't speeding or operating a vessel under the influence also go against your driving privileges in NJ? If it doesn't it should. Sad state of affairs.

Just a matter of time??? People have been getting killed in drunken boating accidents for centuries.....GWL was a deemed a dry lake a few years back after an increase in drunk incidents. The Passaic County Sheriff had their 27 Boston Whaler CC on patrol enforcing the laws. Incidents decreased, politicians changed, people forget, people start getting killed again. Same old cycle, its never gonna change. I haven't seen that $100K+ whaler in years.
