Re: catfish i.d please
I believe that you are correct.....hard to say from photo. But whites and channels both have that tall dorsal fin...I think white have those two white whiskers that point down under there mouths...but I'd check with catfishonthelake......he's pretty sharp when it comes to iding a cat....

Re: catfish i.d please
I think it's a white cat too. I can't see the rear fin b/c of your hand, but that's a classic white catfish color. I've caught tons of channels, and the only catfish that I've ever seen with this kind of color is a blue or a white cat. It's obviously not a blue b/c they're not this far north and their eyes are a lot smaller and there is no way in hell it's an albino b/c albinos have red eyes. Like I said, I've caught lots of channels, even albino channels, and I'd say this is a white cat.

Re: catfish i.d please
That's really a textbook coloring of a white cat. There's really nothing that would make me think otherwise. The rear fins on white cats tend to be more round than channels, but it can be really tough to tell. Once again, nice catch. The state record is only 14 pounds., always keep that in mind.

Re: catfish i.d please
Definitely a white cat. The chin barbels on a white catfish are white; on a channel they're dark.

Re: catfish i.d please
HI, I'm a newbie on this site and happened into this thread. I can say from experience that is is NOT a channel cat. They have a split tail, At least the ones here in PA do. I catch channels and flatheads quite regularly. I never heard of a white cat, but I sure wouldn't mind catching a few of them. NICE fish.

Re: catfish i.d please
Welcome to the board gully. I have to say that I'm somewhat jealous of anyone who catches flatheads regularly. I'm a little far from the Big D where they're being caught so I don't get to fish for them that often.
