Re: Storm Thread
Hi all...
Was able to stay in my house till 6pm Monday nite by 5:30 I knew we were in trouble so my wife and me were able to get some of the more valuable stuff up to the 2nd floor. . . Like 47 rods :D and reels, pictures, ....easy stuff to carry. I live on 4th st. In union beach, the water came up 6ft around the house, my garage was just about completely underwater, I'm on a crawl space so the water came up 3 ft in the house....just enough to ruin everything in there. So at 6 we went to my mom in laws on 8th street, we had my boat, wife's car, mom in laws car and neighbors 50th anniversary convertible corvette in the driveway. She is up on a small hill so I thought they would be safe....I was wrong, the boat is the only one that made it. The water came up thru her crawl space about 10", the house was in 4-5ft of water. At 1:30am I walked to get my truck(parked 12 blocks away on a hill) it was so surreal when I went outside, no one was out there were 2 couches in her yard, a bowling ball, tons of other shit. There had to be a foot and a half of marshland reeds surrounding her block...weird. On the way to the car all I saw we're firemen trying to put out a fire on Florence ave to no avail. I swear I was worried I was going to see a body in the street it looked that effect up. So I was able to get my wife, mom in law and 3 dogs to my sisters house in freehold by 3 am and that is where we have been staying. Been back to the house a few times met with FEMA and homeowners(who is useless, will only pay for wind damage nothing else). Waiting for flood to get back to us. I pray we don't lose everything but we're all safe and my family and friends(and even strangers) have been so nice/helpful. If anyone live in union beach you can go to the police station, they have food, supplies...etc. Really nice of people who have donated money, food, ........ Thanks again to all have helped...truly grateful. Peter |
Re: Storm Thread
Wow Pete, sorry to hear about you and your Mom's house and cars.
Must have been a crazy scene in the middle of that storm. Not sure when you will be able to start working on your homes, but would be happy to try and organize a work day with people from the site to help out if you need it. |

Re: Storm Thread
Just got power back. Road out the storm at my parent's in Rumson as I knew my condo in Long Branch would be an island for a while. My parents lost a big tree, most of a fence and some bricks from a chimney. Got back to my condo Weds morning, lobby rug a bit nasty but my place fine and running on generator. Had plenty of fun with urban foragers coming by to say hello from time to time. Same was occurring in Rumson, Keansburg, Union Beach and Sea Bright.
Police were generally useless guarding gas stations while people's property was being victimized. Most "foragers" were not detained if they were caught in the act. Do know of one guy who fired a warning shot in Keansburg is on $350,000 bail while the forager was released. JCPL did not exceed my very low expectations. Town of Long branch did a fair job and Rumson was useless. I can only hope that some tough decisions are made regarding rebuilding rather than blindly putting everything back the way it was. |
Re: Storm Thread
To my Friends and For everyone that was hit perhaps personally effected by Hurricane Sandy . Remember that even in great loss, and perilous times, God is always with us. He promises he will never leave us or forsake us.
As some may know we live on the North side of Brick township. NJ .We live approx 6-8 miles from Brielle and Point pleasant beach. Our family is all safe and in good spirits . To the south and east side of our town is where it took the biggest hit . Snap shot. We are ok ... power back on helping out others in need now . Right after the storm hit when things were secure in our community I headed out to a few local shelters for volunteer work > Some were make shift , staging shelters to try to facilitate displaced folks. Now A few days later( in our immediate area) things are settled last day or so . Its the towns N S and EAST of us that need most help... Today was 2nd day back to work . We will be helping out now primarily through Calvary Chapel Relief which is in association our Church denomination If you have any need of help or can help locally PM me as i may be able to network some in your area At this time Our thoughts and prayers are going out to everyone, especially those most effected my this storm. I know this is hard on everyone patching things up. But Just a reminder If you can help someone at this time please do even in a small way donate something even your time please reach our to your surrounding communities. If you donate money use discernment investigate as to where the money is to be used.. IMO Your local churches may be the best bet . But make sure that are on the front lines feeding people , distributing goods . If so then rest assured they are the best place to give and lend a hand . Always Hope" Kenny V |
