As a 50/50 charter/pb fishermen, and having double checked what you told us. I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to fish more, AND knowing that my money is going towards not only my favorite boats, but towards a better understanding of how we can manage our fisheries and still have our favorite hobbies. It's pretty cool in my opinion. And it's 3 weeks of one type of fish. Not that huge a deal I think.

with opions like this Russ is why we have screwed up fluke fishing laws now!
I've fished along side of you and I can't belive your comments ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU KNOW I own my own boat and fish on PB ALSO

NOT TRUE, you can bring your grand son (or daughter) on an RSA trip and help donate to research! The set aside is there any way, so use it! They have been doing this in NY for Years. In my opinion it is about time the NJ boats took advantge of the program. But what do I know being you don't respect my opinion anyway.

I'm not sure what you're getting at? Are you trying to say that the captains give envelopes of cash to some politician to fish? I feel like I'm being baited. Ironic on a fishign message board of course. I'm sure the RSA is an organization and the captains write them a business check. Same way I purchase from auctions in my business.

If you've fished with me then you'd know me to be fairly level headed, and at least moderately intelligent. I wasn't trying to say ALL private boat owners are upset with RFA and don't fish party boats. I was making a generalization about my personal experiences thus far.

I'm not looking to fight, but I don't think you can call us greedy fishermen for supporting the RSA boats. The quota is there, they bought it, why not support them for supporting research?

Apart from the obvious "baiting" (thanks Russ, I laughed at that one!) since it has already been explained that the permits involved are not part of the RSA program and are from the state, your question makes no sense. The purchase of RSA quota and the issuance of the permit are two separate actions involving two different entities that are not related to each other.

(going to keep being specific in my responses to see how long it takes you to actually say what you mean)

Re: Is it just me...?

Here, I'll "bite" just because I am bored.:D

The quota is auctioned off by NFI, the group responsible for managing the auction of the RSA quota for the MAFMC. Monies for purchasing RSA quota is sent directly to them, and the money is then distributed directly to the groups performing the approved research studies.

Scientific exemption permits or special exemption landing permits (whatever the individual state calls them) as well as federal special landings permits do not involve any money whatsoever and are mailed directly to the recipient.

So, if you are trying to find out "where to send my money so I can fish" or some other such nonsense, you will need to participate in next years RSA auction. I would not recommend that unless you are comfortable with giving out your hard earned cash to fund research without any guarantee of getting that money back.

Tony, I have a suspicion that this is the most fishing this guy has done in a long time. And he got two big fish to bite. LOL
