Rookie out on his first PUOSU trip here. Glad I was able to go, knew it would be a great time as I've fished with many of you before. Capt Bobby, Mike and Jeff worked their tails off to keep us in the water, weeding through the dogfish and netting keepers all day (and then some extra with the tangles). Bobby's going to need to draw on his diving skills now to go retrieve a couple of anchors ( that sucked ). Gerry Z and I gave it our best on the team competition with 8 fish total but Blackfish Bobby is a master at this fishing and showed us all how it's done again. Congrats to the leaders with the big fish on the board and Alex with the double digit slob and I hear release. PA Beer guy- nice offerings you brought, Golden Monkey all the way!! Gerry Avenel Ale not bad either. Wished conditions would have changed with just a little more wind but hey, ended the day with 5 for the table and shared a few fillets with my shark tournament brother Mr Dales. Nice job Gerry and crew for running this!

Thanks to Yong for the great Jigging World hats and visors. Our PUOSU trip became official when it started to snow flurry  Bow bite never really developed today - it was more like the bow-wow bite:rolleyes: No real surprises for those moving onto round 2 next week on Mimi, except for a notable non-qualifier  Looking fwd to doing it again next week in less favorable conditions :p

Gerry thanks for inviting me to photograph this hot mess:D

It was a good time for me and the weather was balmy in comparison to last years trip.

Glad I was not fishing... the only guy that might out hack me would be the Taxman.:p

Happy Holidays to all:)

It was my first PUOSU and I had a great time. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in organizing it and thanks to all the people who donated the raffle prizes. As always, a great job by Capt. Bobby and crew. It was nice to meet the people behind the screen names. I fished between Jimmy and Mike most of the day. Thanks for the laughs.

Great times Gerry. :D What a group you've assembled here. NJFishing.com is an awesome tool to put together a group of like-minded radicals without the need for Facebook.
I guess I missed out when the hats were handed out, no biggie. I've got plenty of hats and came home with a six pack of the Dirt Wolf left from the 2 cases I brought.:)
Wished I could have gotten at least a keeper but it was not meant to be. Fished next to HD Marc and Yong from Jigging World all day and we all struggled to get the tog to bite. Marc did get 1 keeper and lost a few on the way up. Guess if these guys struggled like me then maybe it was the spot on the boat? Gotta learn that skating thing, just not in my blood.
Going to practice my skating and be back next year. Thinking Growlers instead of cases!!:eek:

The trip in review.

First of all a big hand for all our sponsor, people who donated prizes and food to the trip.

- One 2014 or 2015 Open Boat pass Captain Kris Fish Stix http://www.fishstixnj.com
- One 2015 Canyon Tuna pass Captain Bob Bogan The Gambler http://www.gamblerfishing.net/
- KurtisB donating Grandma rod and reel he won last year. Winner gets to use it for year and pass it along to next winner
- Angina Hart donating a Penn Spinning Rod
- Sam the Sinker Man donating 25 pounds of 8 ounce bank and 25 pounds of 8 ounce flat sinkers which we will sell on the boat for $1 each, some finished Bucktails packages and some unfinshed Bucktails to be chosen by the winner.
- Captain Jerry Fish Mongers donating 2 open boat passes one for each trip which can be used for a single spot on charter as well as any scheduled open trip www.fishmongercharters.com
- Captain Pete Fin Taz Tic Sportfishing donating a spring 2015 Striped Bass charter for 4 people http://www.fintazticsportfishing.com/
- Captain Nelson for Roman Round donating one 2015 open boat pass www.romanround.com
- Captain Adam LaRosa Canyon Runner donating 2 Canyon Runner Spreader Bars and bags www.canyonrunner.com
- Yong from Jigging World a Spiral wrapped Black Demon Blackfish Rod www.jiggingworld.com
- Scoundrel a Classic Customs custom built rod
- Dales/RFA-NJ donating 2 Free passes and 2 arm length raffle tickets (1) per winner to the next RFA-NJ Fishing Trip. This will be open only to all those that get the "skunk" zippo, nada on PUOSU so that way they wont be disappointed or have any expectations when they win!
- We also got a cash donation from Steve from Staten Island who LAB used to get his crabs from.
- JJ Bittings Keg o Beer - Mike and Jake
- One case of PAs finest beer - PAbeerguy
- Philly pretzels and headless Dog Fish - JMurr
- Case of water and chips - LingKing
- CaddiShack - Dougnuts
- Kielbasa and Kraut - HD Marc

We ended up sailing with 39 people. We had 3 last minute drop outs so I recruited Mike and his son Jake from JJ Bittings to fill 2 of those spots.

Weather was just about perfect, well maybe a little too perfect since anchoring was tough most of the day with very light winds.

First drop was instant hook ups and it slowed after the doogies showed up. Next few drops we OK and the final drop seemed to be the best of the day putting a few people over their limits and a few others over the top. Bobby put in some extra time at the last drop and I guess we didn't get back into the dock until close to 5:00. Thanks Captain Bobby, Mike and Jeff for taking such great care of us and putting in the overtime. You guys ROCK!!

As for me, as usual I stunk it up with only 3 barely legal keepers... I did however get an opportunity to fish with the Jigging World Black Demon Spiral Wrapped tog stick and it was a real treat. Loved the action of this rod.

Special thanks to all those who helped coordinate this trip
- MVP thanks for your continued support on these trips, you sir are a class act.
- Dales thanks again for taking care of the raffle and 50/50s.... I think between the both, after cutting the 50/50 we raised around $1100.
- A big thanks to Hookset for taking care of the White Leggers... He donated a bushel to the trip and took care of picking them up and bringing home the left overs for the Mimi trip.
- Shrimpy for picking up the weights and my slack whenever I needed some help.
- Thanks to Wilson for the great photos, Rye and the constant ribbing.

All in all a great trip with a great group of guys.... Great to see some first timers on the trip having fun as well as some old friends who always come out to support our efforts.

Looking forward to the Mimi trip next week. Winner take all, the PUOSU crown/hat, the Grandma rod and reel and bragging rights until next season.

Thanks again everyone for coming out. You guys are the best!!
