Re: 2nd Annual NJFishing / SSFFF Flukathon

Dave,
Due to my daughter's team making the playoffs, 1st game is afternoon of the 26th, I won't be able to make this years trip.
I do like your idea and would like to pay for a spot for one of our vet's or active duty personnel.
Ron is just getting back on his feet after gall blader surgery, and will not be making it. I will speak to you this week and get the money to you.
Thanks for doing all this, we both know how important both of these groups are, and both need as much help as possible.

Henry

Henry,
Sorry to hear you and Ron wont be there and I certainly appreciate the kind gesture.

I cant take any credit for the idea with the vets, it was Howie's idea. I am just trying to make it happen. I sent a PM to Capt Bob of SHCA as I know he runs these trips occasionally and I visited www.takeasoldierfishing.com so I will keep you guys posted on how it develops. If anyone else knows of any vets or active servicemen on or off the site that would like to go please let me know. Reelron? Tropics?

Talk to you soon,
Dave

Dales - you can add a 34th - "Flanaballzs" spoke to him in front of his old lady tonight at the St Leo Carnival and he got the nod and will pay the $85 boatside. Still working on a few others might have 1-2 more late bloomers.;)

Re: 2nd Annual NJFishing / SSFFF Flukathon

All,
Front page list updated and in order of paid / boarding for the day. We had 4 cancellations, 2 of which donated their trip so the actual count as of today stands at 32. Confirmed means paying at boat.

Heres the deal: Trip costs were based on 40 people going to cover boat cost, tip for crew and $ 5.00 donation for SSFFF and $5.00 donation for RFA. A goal of 50 was the cap on the trip but seems out of reach at this point.

Obviously and disappointingly we are still short of that 40 number. Its apparant or should be to anyone who reads anything fishing related that the SSFFF and RFA are doing a fantastic job fighting for all involved in fishing.

The hope every year running this is to give a little back to guys like Capt Ron, Capt TB, Capt Adam, Dave A, the RFA team etc etc for the groups they represent so well and work so hard for. This trip should be multiple boats, news worthy and just plain fun but every year its a last minute struggle to fill out 1 boat. Al Ristori is hyping it in his blog, Fishermen magazine doing a press breif, Brochures all over the place and posted on "other" sites.

5,440 views and less than 1 percent partcipation  Maybe people are waiting for the weather? NOT (40 of us went on PUOSU in 15 degrees and 30MPH Winds), Maybe its the economy. NOT (plenty of reports, fishing going on), Maybe fishermen dont care: NOT (plenty of computer keyboard muscles, opionions posted all the time) Maybe its the species targeted and regs: (Who cares, its a day on da water and that can be changed by popular vote day of) Maybe its me. (Now thats possible! ) I will say however that ALL of the sign ups to date have come from this site. Thats cool:D

Personally I do nothing but spend a bit of time arranging this, its those I listed above who you are doing this for but mainly you are doing it for yourselves and THANKS to everyone who signed up so far.

I am NOT going to get into anymore about WHY you should be part of this, if you dont see it by now no one is going to convince you. But if you want to do a small part and have a great NJfishing.com experience with great people then please consider getting on board.

PS: Capt Ron says we are going regardless. How F' ing unselfish is that! But I really dont want him to and cant let him take less for his work so lets get the number up there.
You will feel better about doing something than staying on the sidelines.

Re: 2nd Annual NJFishing / SSFFF Flukathon

Made a few calls last night and the feedback was def positive, these clowns are probably better suited for a bar crawl than a fishing fund raiser, so def no pressure on biggest fish if these goons show up. Looks like so far at least 3 more, maybe 4-5 so we are definitely inching up to the magic 40 number. I'll keep pluggin away until next weekend, but I gotta imagine there are a few more lurkers out there that need to get off their AZZ and make it down to Capt Ron's Flounder Fantasia "aka get drunk catch fish n be merry" next Sat.

C'mon people just a few more days - every little bit helps!!

dales529 06-18-2010 09:52 PM

Re: 2nd Annual NJFishing / SSFFF Flukathon

Couple of things:
1) Lefty (Ron): Great job recruiting, I smell a passing of the torch next year ;)
2) Tropics: As discussed on the phone paying at the boat is fine.

3)Anyone who wants to "walk-on" just CALL, POST HERE or PM to CONFIRM your spot and pay CASH at the boat.
NOTE: With a week to go all unpaid balances and walk-on fares must be CASH. Same goes for the boat and fundraiser pool(s). Thanks

Paying your deposit and "confirming" your spot means you are IN, therefore you are expected to show, if NOT or any last minute changes please fill your spot with someone who will pay the balance. we need everyone on the list.

PS: Not sure what yet but I will be doing something "extra" for those that signed up early and paid the deposit upfront. Only seems fair.

Body count nearing the "out of critical condition" and could be upgraded to stable but we still need more.
Fluke action picking up everyday! Lets get to our target this week!!!

4) Kudos to Pete from Atlantic Highlands Bait and Tackle. Spoke with him today and asked for the trip brochure to be put out in his shop. Not only did he comply but offered free ICE for all going on the trip morning of. Extremely knowledgeable and very nice guy. Sponsor shop, stop in for your ice and maybe even buy a little something.

5) ShirtGUY: Thinking maybe a Banner "RFA / SSFFF Supporters" type thing. lets discuss. I need to make sure its OK with Capt Ron beforehand.

6) Henry (jakesdad) was kind enough to offer the "Pool Winner T shirt" Yes its extra large.

7) Also big Thanks to Capt Bob Morrell SHCA for his help making contact with soldiers who may be interested in fishing with us. No firm response yet BOB but it is enlightening going through the process and I hope some of the guys take us up on the offer. I commend you on the work you do for them.

More to come this week. Getting down to the pre-trip fun stuff I hope.

YOU can not be forgotten!
Some things that may be said:
1) SSHHH Sam the Sinkerman thinks you are going.
2) Wow its 3 AM and the stern and pulpit are still available.
3) Something smells different on the boat today. I actually smell FLUKE bait.
4) Why doesnt Steve go to Florida in the winter like the rest of us.

Things you wont hear:
1) Damit another hang up on da rocks, I only brought 500 bucktails!
2) I never win anything.
3) Stay outta my Shrimp Lefty
4) Chris, NET, NET, NET, Never mind its the bottom

Seriously, you will be missed, it will take a few guys to pick up the slack without your presence. Thanks for mentioning the trip again :D

Re: 2nd Annual NJFishing / SSFFF Flukathon

Dave, I want to personally thank you for once again helping the SSFFF raise money for our current projects and future ones as well. Not only that but thank you for helping spread the "word". We as fishermen are all in this mess together and you realize that and also realize the fact that we all need to be involved. I wish the trip was sold out but understand that many have to work and economic times are difficult. However, I commend all those attending and would like to offer the following incentive: a limited edition (only 10 made) Guy Harvey giclee for the largest fluke caught and a new rod and reel for the largest legal fluke caught by anyone 16 and younger.

T minus 5 days & counting - NICE, can't wait.

Dave A - - Thanks for the added incentives. I know Guy HArvey but never heard of a giclee until I googled it - Sweet !! Hope we do have some < 16's as guests on Sat..

DALES - - I know we have a pre-set boarding order, but what time do we actually board ?

Looking forward to a great one !! :)

Hart,
If all goes well Boarding will begin at 7AM
As posted in the trip brochure everyone has been asked to be there no later than 6:45. I need to take care of the $$ balances and raffle tickets ect. dockside then we can board. I hope to be there between 6 and 6 :30AM. You are number 3 and 4 so not to worry.

And yes it should be a great one :D . Hopefully a few a more get on board.

Dave,
Thanks for the kind words but its much more about what you guys do. We also have a lot of familiar faces from last year, new recruits and some who couldnt make it but offered donations. As you stated, they deserve a ton of credit for their time and $$. After last years trip none of us even knew if we would have a season this year. We got a season and better yet regs that are tolerable compared to other areas thanks to the work of SSFFF and RFA.

The Guy Harvey and Rod/ Reel gesture are certainly appreciated, over and above and will make the day even more competitive (I mean special).

Dave Arbietman's offer brings up a point. I dont know everyone going personally yet or some of your guests. I am sure some of us qualify for acting 16 but do we actually have any 16 or younger on board??

Re: 2nd Annual NJFishing / SSFFF Flukathon

I can vouch for a handful that will act 16 but drivers licenses may prove otherwise.... Update on the tally, I have 5 more guys that are promising to be at the boat on Sat rain or shine, I dont want you to put their names down cause you dont know them personally and as generous as I am Im not paying their way if they bail BUT... hypothetically this put us up around 39. Still waiting on 2 more also paying boatside so we might actually hit 40 afterall.

WTG Ron,
Holy smokes you could possible account for 25 / 30% of the body count. Pretty Impressive.

Re: 2nd Annual NJFishing / SSFFF Flukathon

Heads up to ALL:
Spoke with Capt Ron, if all people are accounted for earlier than later we may be able to push off earlier than 7:30 (like 7). I advertised the trip for people to be there no later than 6:45 and to depart at 7:30. So if you can get there earlier than 6:45 do so, if NOT than we leave at the advertised time even if its just one person that cant do early. Good thing is eveyone that is going is from this site or is with someone from here so the word should be easily passed.

Sat AM routine:
1)Show up
2) Pay the balance of your fare. (i will be there collecting fares off the master sheet hopefully by 6AM)
3) Buy your 50/50 tickets (optional) Tickets are 4 for $10.00 or 12 for $20.00
4) Get your stuff together and wait for your boarding call.
5) Largest fish pool will be handled on the boat by the crew.

Getting down to the wire:D

Vin, hating life right now. In a hell of alot more pain then I ever expected. Today's the first day im actually able to get up and get to the computer. Can't stand long before I have to sit down & ice it up. 40+ stitches on the inside. :( Surgeon said 6 weeks before I can go back to work but, hoping when I go see him for the post op he tells me different.

Trying to get out there on Saturday but right now it seems unlikely. I can barely stand, let alone be out on a boat all day. See what happens tomorrah'.
