This whole thing smells funny to me. I clicked the "Contact Us" link at the top of the Keep America Fishing home page and asked them for more specifics on the alleged bill, and they haven't responded for 2 days. They also have a big "Donate" link there, and drumming up business on the site, plus getting names and addresses of fishermen, could be their real motivation.
I also contacted the Maine legislator who supposedly sponsored the alleged bill, and he hasn't replied in 2 days either, but may be unavailable or something. There's no rhyme or reason for what's described in the OP and creating outrage all over the Internet, and I'm wondering if it's just another urban legend. I just get swamped with people raising hell about it when I Google search it, and on the congressman's own web page, there was no proposed Maine legislation at all on the specified date, nor does searching of the topic bring up any hits.
I'll update on here if either of my emails is answered.

Thats man is NOT a ""Republican"".. he's RINO.. Look it up.. He's NOT conservative... this is a bullshit bill, written by an idiot. He needs to get his filthy hands OFF of my life and the lives of others that want to have the freedom to enjoy the outdoors.. They are coming for your guns, make no mistake, and as you can see, even your fish hooks aren't really safe...

We haven't seen the last of this sort of thing either.. get used to it....

Have you been able to verify this story independently of the Keep America Fishing story, BB? I've tried contacting the Maine representative in question and the fishing site, and have not gotten anything back yet.
I think it's very possible that K.A.F. is just trying to increase traffic on its web site and compile a nice long list of names and addresses of known fishermen.
