Lots of great info here.. I would add a word of caution concerning something I have not seen mentioned yet.. critters... About the only costly damage I have incurred during layover was caused by mice.. found their way into the outboard.. clogged and chewed stuff.. general mess.. Not to mention the mess they leave in any little nook elsewhere in the boat they happen to invade.. Between the mice and chipmunks where I live, its a constant battle.. I've heard mothballs may deter them.. going to try that this year...plus, I've enlisted the services of a cat.. ;) Nothing worse in the spring than being greeted with a mouse-turd bunt cake...

Good call.... We had the same issue with our inboards. Something got into the engine compartment and chewed up a whole section of the insulation/sound proofing.

As long as you treat the fuel in the tank and run it through the carbs you don't have to run them dry.

Thanks Jerry. I have always run them dry but was reading elsewhere that it might dry out gaskets and seals.

What do you use to treat the gas? I have been using the marine grade stabil

Been using Stabil alcohol version since they started it. And regular Stabil before that since 1983. GREAT. Always left full.

In fact run Stabil fuel all the time.

This has been asked before. I am a Stabil guy. There are others here swear by others.

Which one is better? There is no such thing as better except same but cheaper. Neither one of the additives are "cheaper"
