Re: Last PR report
The area you were in is HUGE - larger than most of our game lands or even parks - well over 1000 acres. Plenty of room for them to live despite urban areas all around there. I'm always looking for prints - animal or human - and have seen bear paw marks beyond that area - even down in Union County.

Re: Last PR report
I've done many exploratory trips through the "wooded" areas of the P, I've yet to see any Black Bears, so this is pretty interesting.

Re: Last PR report
Only the 3rd time I have seen bears on the P in 16 years all in GP., first time up close
Perspective, my office is down 46 a bit in Parsippany, have seen bears there nearly every non winter month consecutively for ten years now. Tried the big P today in a few spots, decent smallmouth and a few dink LMB. Hard to fish as its so shallow and weedy |

Re: Last PR report
I once got into a school of White Perch on thePompton. Caught 6 in a row on a small spinnerbait.
I also ha a running with a bear. He trapped me on a steep rocky bank of the big D. The only way up the bank and away from the river was blocked by his 300 pounds. As a kid I learned how to whistle using my fingers. It can be really loud and piercing. I tried it really to get the attention of two guys in a boat on the other side of the river. After a standoff of what seemed like hours that did it. The bear immediately stood up, turned and walked off. The ranger I talked to later knew the bear. He said I should be grateful for the experience. |
