Re: Codfish Reel

Thanks guys. Lots of great feedback and gives me a few options to consider. The Talica is a powerhouse but just a few $$$ more than I want to spend. Leaning towards another Avet and I think I'm set for a codfish set-up.

Now, if I could just figure out this fluke fishing thing :)

Now to get your Avets to stop being coffee grinders is to take the shields off the bearings and clean and pack them with grease. You'll never have to buy another bearing again!

Avets & Saltists both need to be cleaned & lubed inside regularly. Greasing bearings will cut way back on their regular servicing, but other internal parts (drag washers, clickers, anti reverse, etc) will need to be serviced. Also, greased bearings cuts down on casting distance. Removing shields, cleaning, oiling and replacing the shields on spool bearings is a great way to add distance to your casts.

This is very true. Like I said previously I never had any issues with my Daiwa reels and I beat the heck out of them.
