I would have flat out told him NO and see what actions would come next. A ticket for something that is free ? A slap on the wrist ? Maybe being told you can't go fishing in the Atlantic Ocean until you sign up ?

You get a $100 fine if you get caught fishing 🎣 without the salt water registry card.

Knowing how things work, I would bet it costs them more than $100 to issue and track the ticket :D

Re: No limit!

In New Jersey, failing to register with the state's saltwater registry can result in fines. For a first offense, the penalty is $25, and for subsequent offenses, the fine increases to $50. For-hire vessels face a $100 fine for the first offense and $200 for each additional offense, according to The Fisherman. The registry is required for all anglers fishing in New Jersey's marine waters.

Here's a breakdown:
First Offense: $25 fine.
Subsequent Offenses: $50 fine.
For-Hire Vessels: $100 fine for first offense, $200 for each additional offense.

What exactly are you giving up by NOT just signing up in compliance with this?
And sick of hearing about it. Just do it or not but stop complaining about it. If you are worried about your information getting out than get off all social media! Dont worry AI will find you anyway. Way more important things to concern yourself with!

It wouldn't surprise me if it was the Captain or mate who made the CO aware of the situation. I have witnessed that in the past.

Why do 20 other states have a saltwater license and only 2 have a saltwater registry ??? The results with the registry so far has been lower limits and shorter seasons and to everyone this is "a good thing to have" It's time for a change, just like you said.
