Re: Puosu 4
Showed up at the dock @ 0500 to find a group (Lefty Reeler, JMurr and Sportsfish USA with a grill and a 12 pack of Lattes!!
Everyone stored their stuff on the boat and we got ready to go. Got a call from our fearless leader saying he just woke up and wasn't gonna make it (translate this to 'it's cold, my bed and wife are hot and I ain't making THAT trade-off). We selected starting positions at the rail according to order and me and 9 others had the midships and entire stern to ourselves. Guess someone heard this is a "bow bite" boat??? Fished off Red Church with spotty bite and the skating began. Some roasters, keepers and shorts came in here. After giving this spot all we could we headed out to deeper water (dunno but I'm thinking we were @ "Green Acres"; you figure it out). We brought some more over the rails with Quanman Mark pulling a real nice 7-8#er and some nice 4-5#ers around the boat. Some caught, some didn't. Then the captain Bobby Quinn came back and told us someone got a nice fish in the bow. I sent his azz back up to find out WHO. The SAD news he returned with was "Fish Cakes???". OMG! Another 7-8#er. A wiggle and some more fish then a HOOT from the bow that someone's got a nice fish on. DMac brings a nice fish to the net and Blackfish Bobby looks at me and say "That's a real nice piggy". Weighed it bouncing around 11#!!! The bar had been raised pretty damn high. Some wiggles and fish with good bottom ALL AROUND THE BOAT on every drop then we headed back inshore to 40' somewhere off Long Branch. Again the catchers caught and the wanna-be's swung and missed. The captain made one more move and keep us out until sundown; going above and beyond. We weighed the fish in on the ride in; and will make this disclaimer: We asked EVERYONE to weigh in but some didn't think their fish were worthy of weighing. That ego can get in the way of a Mimi fishing trip ??? All weights are pounds/ounces 1. DMac 11/2 IN 2. Quanman 7/12 OUT 3. Fish Sticks 7/4 OUT 4. Shrimpman 5/4 IN 5. Foul Hook 5/1 IN 6. Bagel Boy 5/0 IN 7. D Rod 4/14 IN 8. KurtisB 4/9 IN 9. The Kid 4/9 IN 10. Blackfish Bobby 4/7 IN 11. Boston Pete 4/4 IN 12. Rayman/Grumpy's 3/15 IN 13. Scoundrel 3/12 IN 14. LAB 3/6 IN 15. J Murr 3/6 IN 16. Krueger 3/5 IN 17. MVP 3/1 IN 18. FinS 2/13 IN 19. Garone 2/12 20. Donand 2/12 21. Rob B 2/11 22. Sea Soda 2/8 23. Lefty Reeler 2/3 24. Scott Kearny 1/3 I'm sure I'll be corrected but DMac, The Kid and Blackfish Bobby had their limits. Some had NO keepers. There will also be pictures on the Ocean Explorer's website and he may post a report too. Other's took pics throughout the day and will post. I bought a new camera and didn't fully charge it before the trip so I only have a few pics |

Re: Puosu 4
Really frustrating missing the boat on this one. Got all my gear ready put on my thermals and sacked out on the couch so i wouldnt bother the wife. Set the alarm on the phone but must of had it on silent as it never sounded.
Glad you guys had a good trip and congrats to all the people moving on to the final. Great job setting this up Mike. |
Re: Puosu 4
hey Life is a beach,no mention of those fresh delicious philly pretzels i brought thats racist! i sucked landing 2 keepers and 4 short togs and waving at a few more but the 1 was all that mattered. also big thanks to everyone who donated to the make a murr meal foundation today. thanks to you i will be enjoying sea bass, moutain trout, philly mako, bluefish, port richmond python, banana cod and the elusive sandy hook bonefish aka EL DIABLO COCKOLLA! had a great time as always with everyone except Boston Pete who is dead to me " Dude you really eat them eel things, i thought you were joking" yes Pete I got slim figure by joking about eating! big thanks to capt quinn and the crew especially for not yelling at me for keeping my delicacies! Lastly, I hope I annoyed and offended most of you at some point and entertained 1 or 2 as well. Just like my eagles there is still hope as PHILLY IS STILL ALIVE!
Mikey how much is the fare for the next trip? |
Re: Puosu 4
Sorry Joe
The Phillie Pretzels were a big treat and appreciate it! I knew I'd forget someone and it had to be you.......the quiet giant My mind was not focused last night. I had a Wicked Wind Burn from the Liberal to my left and the Little Kid to my right S.A.M. all day long. At least The Kid caught LMAO! |
Re: Puosu 4
Mike - Big ups for putting it together. Had some good times even if (though) I hacked it up....again. As mentioned, the bite was tough yesterday but the good company and awesome grub in the cabin made it an A+ day.
Props to Dennis with his personal best for Prelim honors @ 11.2#s Long short....I'm in this Sunday by the 2 sweetest words in the English language. De Fault.....De Fault!!! Hoping this plays out like a zero to hero ending. |

Re: Puosu 4
Lab, Thanks for putting this trip together. Takes a lot of effort to organize a trip this big and you did a bang up job at it. First class job. Food was amazing and thank you to everyone who brought something and to Tom (smokey Joe) for the absolutely amazing brisket and pulled pork. In fact I never seen so much food on a boat.
Catching my PB was highlight but the whole day was great. I had a great time met some new faces and all around couldn't ask for better trip only thing is wish they chewed a little better tough picky bite had to work for it. Looking forward to the MIMI next week. what are we doing for food having smokey cater it or are we just all bringing some stuff to share. do we have a place to plug in a crock pot on the mimi Oh yeah lab... as for you comment in the beginning during the odds was that enough for the guy from MO. LOL:D Sorry didn't post last night, but I had to drive my ass back to PA and it was food and sleep when I got home. |
Re: Puosu 4
Great trip, even if the fishing was a little slow. Spent Saturday on the Mimi and had NONE in the box all day:mad:. Sunday was pretty much the same. I donated a few ling, and cbass to the jmurr foundation, but couldn't find a keeper tog. I finally got the hit I was looking for LATE in the day and boxed a decent fish. At the time I didn't think it was good enough for the cut, but tagged it anyway (hey, I had the tag, why not use it). Ended up to be good enough for 4th place! Next weeks schedule is now in the calender, Mimi saturday AND sunday! I couldn't ask for a better way to spend my birthday next sunday!
Great fishin with a lot of old friends and some new! PS: Mike, thanks again for welcoming me back with open arms! Great trip! |

Re: Puosu 4

(Pre Lim - You gotta put a REAL fish in the boat on the 18th):p Crock Pot yes Jersey Joe catering no Let's see how the week plays out as to whom is bringing what in food There was so much food on the boat I'm surprised YOU had to eat when you went home?? (I had a bowl of cereal) YO SFUSA - I'll double check the weigh in sheets when I get home. If you actually caught A fish......I'll put you on the list. Three guys at that size so I'll have to draw straws if someone calls out??? |

Thanks Eric, and to all who said congrats. I want to have a repeat would be great to have a new PB in the finals. I have a feeling there will be some better fish caught next week and hope I can do it again. If not it will still be a great trip and will definitely be entertaining. Hell when I hooked that fish I thought Boston Pete messed with my drag like he did to scotty the day prior. |

I didn't eat that much during the day i rather spend my time on the rail than in the galley... I will either bring a 3 foot roast beef hoagie, roast beef in gravy in crock pot to make hot roast beef sandwiches, or meatballs You let me know. Trust me I plan on putting a good fish in the boat next week, but if I its someone else that puts in the hours good for them. |
Re: Puosu 4
Love um or Hate um, one thing that can not be argued is the the man (Lab)ochestrated a great show yesterday organizing this trip with some great people. Props all around to those who fished as well as to Captain Bobby and crew. Not only did we have a good time but we raised a nice size donation for a greate cause. See you next week.
PS Let me know if I should bring the 100 qrt cooler with ice again for the drinks and to ice catch for those who have a long ride home next week. |
Re: Puosu 4
Mike what is the fare Sunday?
|
Re: Puosu 4
Thanks LAB, Bobby Quinn & Crew, everyone who brought food/beverages and the sponsors. It was a fun trip and good to see a bunch of people from previous PUOSUs.
FIN_S or Boston Pete...enjoy my spot on the MIMI #default |
Re: Puosu 4
All i can say is WHAT A GREAT TRIP.. we have a "motley crew" in the stern from corner to corner!! It was an amazing time, Mike is a great dude and funny how everyone sees the gentle side of him on these trips.. lol Tough day of fishing but i managed ot have a great time no matter what.. Fish or no fish, that was one of the best trips of the year for me!!
Thanks again mike and everyone who made the 18th, (bite me ) hahahahahahahahahahahaaha KIDDING!! |
Re: Puosu 4
It was nice seeing and fishing with Gerry yesterday, oh wait, never mind
Thanks LAB for a great day and trip. 200 - 1 was too kind I can see way the trip was limited to 40 guys, the Coast Guard does issue weight restrictions for boats and based upon the food and drink we had, I can see why were such well proportioned men :) I was a had not, a couple shorts, a doggy and a big mean eel that I thought I had the pool winner on as I was bringing it us since it was foul hooked and rolled into the line. What a fight and what a dissapointment when I got it to the surface. Was nice meeting and fishing with everybody. Boat left in the dark and returned in the dark, can't ask for a better effort or day Thanks to Sam the sinker man for meeting at the boat and delivering the lead Thanks to the sponsors and the others for all the prizes. That was my day, almost 30 prizes for the 41 people and I got skunked at that as well |
Re: Puosu 4
Great frekin trip!!!!...thanks Lab. OE capt. & crew and everyone who donated something..
Congrats Dennis, I would never pull something like that on a trip where money is involved.....well maybe to Scotty I would.:D I really had a blast even though the fishing was tough, I met some new people and was great to see familiar faces/friends. Vinnie, great talking with you...I don't want to blow up your rep but you're good dude...hope we can fish together again real soon. Smokey, thanks for the food and a special thanks for cutting your 3+lb fish before weigh-in...if Fin S didn't make the cut I don't know who was going to drive me next week? Can't wait till next week...repemdtion time. |
