so the place field and tackle in wanaque doesn't do warranty repair anymore.

none of the other certified places with in under 2 hour drive will do warranty repairs on motors that they didn't specifically sell.

There are two places one in bowmanstown PA and jackson NJ that will do it but they aren't open on the weekends....

what in the fing hell??? I'm two seconds from being done with minn kota, anyone else run into this issue??

I have to drive 2 hours plus on a weekday...what i have to take off work to get this done hahaha what a joke...it's to the point that minn kota's supposedly great warranty and customer service means crap cause you can't even get it taken care of!

Have you tried calling MinKota customer service directly and expressing your concerns to them? They might have a solution for you.

Post on their FB page. That'll garner a response and hopefully a solution.

Does the place in wanque still service minnkota motors and just not
warranty work. If so possibly have them do the work, pay, than have
minnkota send a refund. At least your motor will be repaired and
usable.

If its under warranty they will pay the shipping just tell them that you cant miss work to deliver and pick up the motor. The jackson place I think has a drop off spot call and ask them. Ive only used johnson warranty for fishfinders and they hae been great, free extra parts and such never had TM issue. The one time my terrova died cause of bad seals I just ordered new ones from northland marine, they are simple motors to fix and figure out. whats the issue ur having w what motor?

Its all of the little things like this that I think that Tackle and Field will be out of busniess in a couple of years. They were once a one stop shop. Outboard repairs, warranty repairs on a variety of gear. If you needed something whether a trailer part, boat part, motor part, the answer was "go to Franks" I recall Frank and me going through a large bin of propellers trying to find a replacement for my 30 year old Minn Kota and we were both surprised to find one. And when I dropped off something for repair I would usually browse around and buy something. I'm sure I wasn't alone.

When it was Franks they had everything and did everything. Now it is just basic bait and tackle and I can get that at Dicks or online cheaper.

Take away those niche services and there is really no reason to go there outside of buying bait. So sad to see a one great place go downhill so fast.

Try on their Facebook page as someone else suggested. I had a warrenty issue with ocean kayak and the solution was a well written post using their own advertising words on their Facebook page. Took 15 minutes before I got a call that my brand new kayak was on the way.
Good luck.

ya , as a fellow minn kota owner, I figured this was only a matter of time until it happened to me too . the whole key here is "places that repair under warranty", not many left so your almost forced to look elsewhere. of course it costs ya more $$$$$ . I feel the frustration .

i spoke with a local marina on this topic and Minn Kota (Johnson Outdoors) doesn't pay enough ($30/hr) for him to cover his costs to perform warranty work.

He also indicated the repayment process with Minn Kota is slow and a major PIA.

I have always been a MK fan and think they have a superior product. Give CS a call I am sure they will make it right.

Chris, What happened to your trolling motor? I'll tell you waht, since I use mine way more then the normal human LOL, over the winter I took it comnpletley apart to check things out and clean it all up. I was impressed to see how good the brushes were running, and how clean them commutator was. Chris, its a "SNAP" to take apart.

The seal popped a while ago and the guy from field and tackle repaired it under warranty. it has since popped again twice recently and it makes a clicking noise when off like it's trying to turn on. I feel like the lower unit is probably damaged from water. i figure it's leaked for a while now. It's currently usable but it's giving me 'that feeling'. i guess i could check it out myself.

they basically have a monopoly anyway, i've never seen motor guide for sale anywhere around here and i couldn't even name a 3rd electric motor company haha. I have to get them on the phone and see what my options are hopefully either reimburse me for a repair near me or pay my shipping or something.

another annoying thing is they stopped with the extended 2 year warranty, so i have to pull out my paper work and see exactly how much time i even have left before the one i have is expired!

I think the word you're looking for is oligopoly.

And take to FB. They'll get back to you in less than 24 hrs with a resolution. Social media has companies by the scrote

I think in all these things you have to think about how much your time is worth and what you would pay to avoid the aggravation. Sometimes this is where you find the least unsatisfactory answer. Is this their design? Good luck with it.
