Off to the Big D this morning in search of some mixed bag fishing. Started out around 9 am jigging for Eyes and Smallies but unfortunately nobody was home.
Made the switch to Catfishing around noon. The bite started out slow but then "BOOM", it happened. Here a Flathead, there a Flathead and then a double header Flathead. These 2 Invasive bastards hit about 15 seconds apart, good times!:)

So I'm reeling in the 1st fish from the double header, the other rod goes off. This is a much larger fish. I put the rod with the smaller fish in between my legs so I can play with the bigger fish. Head shakes, drag ripping runs, damn thing didn't want to come in. It wasn't the biggest Flathead by any means but man was she pissed. Once they see the sunlight they get really, really angry. Ok, so I land the big one! 32 inches or so, about 15 lbs! The other rod is still dancing between my my legs and I land them both without breaking anything. The other fish is around 27-28 inches and 8+ lbs give or take. Ya had to be there to see this freak show live. It was just comical trying to keep both rods under control without falling and splitting my head open on the jagged rocks, LOL! Good times!!!

Total fish for the trip was, 5 Flatheads, 2 @ 7-8 lbs, 1 @ 15 lbs possibly bigger, 2 cookie cutter Flatheads @ 3-4 lbs and 2 cookie cutter Channels that need to go grow some more! I didn't get much of a fight out of the Channels, silly little 2-3 lbers eating giant baits. What were you thinking?

All fish caught from 1-5 pm this afternoon! Action died when alot of jet boats came racing up and down the river for no apparent reason!

While all other species seem to disappear these Cats seem to be on the move. Nothing busting on top, no Shad fry schools to be seen. No Smallies devouring bugs on top at all. That moon is big, I don't like it for the other finesse fish! The moon is the devil sometimes!!!

Funny, biggest catch I had today was what you were probably using as bait :D

Smb fishing has been pretty lame for me as well lately. I cant believe we're still getting summer weather.

Rebuilt the boat from the ground up but yet I'd rather go to these rocks and catch these powerful fish! It doesn't feel like fall yet so I'll stick with my summer plans for now! Hopefully that fall weather shows up soon! Things should be interesting as most of the acorns and other things fell from the trees rather early. Thanks for looking guys!

TIGHT LINEZ to ALL!!!!!:D

Hey Seth buddy! Thanks man! They've been caught well above rt 80! These fish move a lot to find the food source they need to survive. :D

Eddie,

As others have already said, only you! And you were probably using chicken liver for bait. How you catch these trophies during the day and on plastics still perplexes me. I've never caught a flat head during light (haven't put much time in for them either during the day) but even at the beginning of night trips don't think I've ever connected before it got dark. And I still haven't gotten over the fish I think it was last year you caught on the lead head jigs and soft plastic, that's insane. You have a knack my friend. Good to see the flat head fishery is alive and well, they're a great fish. Should be feeding up for the long winter ahead, great time of year!

I've seen them caught by accident on jig & plastics while bass fishing in their native waters in Missouri... they are an apex predator, so it makes sense.

"That looks good, I'm gonna eat it."
